Calgary GM Darryl Sutter is busy trying to land a No. 1 center and is trying to entice one of his old friends to make a deal. Sources say Sutter has held talks with Sharks GM Doug Wilson about Patrick Marleau. Wilson has maintained he's going to keep Marleau, but situations change.

And who does Calgary have to send the other way that might be of interest to the Sharks? Dion Phaneuf? Robyn Regehr? The Sharks can't settle for less. (DC)

You can't even consider this a rumour... Calgary has nothing to give up for Marleau. Like DCruiser said, they would have to give up someone of Phaneuf caliber... Wilson isn't just going to give him away for Langkow, Conroy and a sack of pucks... Plus, Marleau is not a rental player who makes $4M a year and Sutter still has to re-sign Phaneuf before the summer, because you know he will get an offer sheet if Sutter waits...

Not happening. Calgary has nothing to offer unless they give up Phaneuf and I do not see that happening! maybe they can throw in their zamboni guy and a lifetime supply of beek jerky! Now that would be an interesting deal!

Apparently no one has seen Marleau play the last year and a half. This guy has been "Mr Potential" for 10 years. He's soft, doesn't work at all, he doesn't play defense and he didn't play all that well for Sutter when he coached here in San Jose.

I would trade him for a spare tire on the Zamboni.

He's been "Mr. Potential" for 10 years now. Sutter couldn't get him to play when he coached here in San Jose, why would he even want him. Have you guys seen Marleau play the last season and a half. He's soft, doesn't play defense, non team player, zero emotion or guts. Doesn't sound like a Sutter kind of guy.

I'd take a spare tire for the Zamboni for him.

Can't see SJ and Calgary pulling off a deal for Marleau..., and I can't see Forsberg in Calgary. Besides..., wasn't 'Clangkow' their #1 guy at one point?

PenguinFan has been smoking the funnies page, or something. Marleau's a reliable 35/35/70 scorer who's +2 for his career (so much for "doesn't play defense") and one of the fastest skaters in the game. Half the teams in the NHL would be delighted to have him as a first-line center. But because he's a more taciturn, even-keeled guy who doesn't act like someone set his jock on fire, and because he's streaky, people want him run out of town on a rail. I swear, sometimes I'm embarassed to be a Sharks fan, so many of the others are so dumb.

If the Habs snagged Marleau I would't be upset. Even with his slow start, he is still in the upper percentile for skill

he's a heck of a player, who is beginning more and more to look like he needs a change of scenery. He had a pretty good regular season last year, again, but disappeared in the playoffs and looks like he hasn't recovered from the disappointment. And the fans have - for the most part - turned on him. It might be the best thing for his career to get out of San Jose, but, like the guys before me said, Calgary has little to offer. Neither do the Habs, unfortunately (nice Conky pic, by the way). It wouldn't take a top flight star to get him, but any team that wants him with have to make it worth San Jose's while right now. Though something tells me the price will go down as the season progresses if they keep playing the way they have so far...
