Evernham: 'I am burned out'

05:27 AM ET 11.19 | Ray Evernham started telling everybody that meant he was going to have less and less to do with running the team he bought from Bill Elliott. He would, instead, go back to spending more time working on the team's cars and trying to make them go faster than they have been during what has been a difficult season. "I am burned out, I guess," Evernham said. Everybody's burned out at the end of a long NASCAR season, even a car owner with three teams who hasn't been able to get one to victory lane after Kasey Kahne won six times last year. "I am going to cut way back next year," he said. How far back? "I don't know if I will be at more than 10 races next year."

Oh come Ray - take a month off, enjoy your Christmas and then get Kasey back in the winners circle.

I HOPE SO

November 19, 2007  09:41 AM ET

The season just ended. Come to Brazil for a month or three and drink caipirinhas on the beach for a while and you'll be more than ready to get back to work. Or...you may never leave the beach once you see Brazilian chicks in bikinis and you sell the team and buy a beach bar... Maybe my plan isn't such a good idea after all. Never mind.

November 19, 2007  09:48 AM ET

I am interested in your plan Jaz.......I just gave notice lol

November 19, 2007  10:37 AM ET

LOL @ jackmanrob

Jazinho wasn't there a movie about that, in 1988 named "Cocktails" with Tom Cruise and Bryan Brown.....still a good movie and a good idea. and many a worker's fantasy.

Back to the topic.....hopefully Ray will reconsider the "10 races" .......he needs to relax, recharge and get back in the game full tilt next year.

November 19, 2007  11:35 AM ET

50 grand will do it. No kidding.

Way off topic. Sorry!

November 19, 2007  12:20 PM ET

He will be back, he just needs to get his PRIORITYS straight!

November 19, 2007  12:35 PM ET

Jazinho - you don't have to be on topic.
We all just like to enjoy the comments.

Did they take that pic of him on the toilet? If so, who sponors that toilet, because I have to get X-mas presents pretty soon. I wonder if Dale Jr. has sponsors on his toilet?

November 19, 2007  04:16 PM ET

Wasn't this part of the reason Jeremy Mayfield was let go??? Mayfield claiming that Evernham was never there and always up Erin Crocker's rear...

November 19, 2007  04:47 PM ET

Yes sir thats very true From what the scuttlebutt is though
Erin is history

November 19, 2007  05:47 PM ET

tbmogr1x.......LMAO @ your comments.......he sure does look like he is sitting on one....and is almost in the same position as that famous statue
The Thinker.........there probably is no sponsor on the toilet seats, mainly because sponsors names need to be seen and having one on a toilet opens up a whole new conversation LOL

Thanks SLY,

you guys know I don't know S--t about NASCAR (if it didn't happen between '83 and '88) but I love reading the posts here to get the skinny. And chime in here and there when I find a tangent. The posts here are far more informative and entertaining for a green horn like myself than any long winded article on some of these NASCAR OR DIE websites.

I tire of the soap opera aspect of NASCAR nowadays but I come from a car loving family. 51 Ford convertible, 64 Lincoln Continental convertible (suicide doors with a glass partition), 74 Corvette, Datsun 260Z (beautiful) that my dad shoe horned a small block V8 into and actually road raced (unsuccessfully might I add). And all kinds of other beautiful cars at one time or another were sitting in our garage or sometimes...in the yard. :(

We also had a 32 foot Thunderbird that my dad also shoe horned a giant motor (don't remember what it was, just remember his friends saying that it would shake that piece of fiberglass all the way to Davy Jones' locker, which it did in the end, but it was fast! The boat went down in 5 feet of water in Barnegat Bay. It was exciting all the same.

I didn't know losing was so exhausting. Come on Ray, get it together.

November 20, 2007  08:37 AM ET

Hey Guys,
In my humble opinion, take a look at the whole picture..during this season, Ray has had ALOT on his plate! Certainly burning the candle at both ends is a tough thing to do, especially in NASCAR. I still say the thing with Erin was no big deal and possibly a source of relaxation for him. Other guys have girlfirends and wives so whats the big deal? Of greater concern is the lack of a win by any Evernham car in the Cup Series, not to mention the merger thing for $$$. I believe the $$$ things causes more stress than just about anything if you want to stay in contention. Like in everything, people sometimes need a break and if thats what Ray needs, he should take advantage of the opportunity, if for no other reason than to clear his head.

If his drivers and teams had done well this season he would be burning up with passion for the sport. Shows you how important winning is in everything.
