The Bruins are very close to the $50.3 million salary cap. But they are allowed to go above the cap because of the long-term injuries to Patrice Bergeron and Alexei Zhamnov. Asked about a possible trade to fill some of the Bergeron void, general manager Peter Chiarelli said there is no player available who would be the answer.

Bruins make a trade for a scorer? I'm not going to hold my breath on this one.

I think what he really ment was that he really has no players that would have enough value to get a player to make a difference. I am pretty sure no other GM's in the league are willing to give up a scorer without getting Kessel, Murry, Savard or Sturm.

Nothings screams "I'm actually injured" like the good ol' neckbrace.

Zhamnov's been injured for years..., odds are he's not returning but Bergeron is desperately needed in Btown! I doubt they'll give up on Kessel but Murray's as good as gone I think.

Cam didn't join the organization to be a figurehead.....he's pushing to change things....they ARE looking..for the right deal..believe me, the entire town is going crazy about the Red Sox, the Celtics, the Patriots, and yes even the Revs had a great season...so that is pushing them as well..they are competing for dollars and the gate in the NHL is very, very important....it'll happen and happen soon...we need a stanislovsky or a hanukkenenenen, someone whose name goes up one sleeve and down the other...

Good observation, DurkDiggler! (DC)

Unless they think they're desperate, Kessel will stay. Muzz can go as far as I'm concerned. I know they lost to Montreal, but it sure was a fun game to watch.. Great to see Charo get 19 penalty minutes and finally mix things up a bit... rebreak someone's nose and ya think you can fight anyone at anytime ;)

rsb,

didn't know you followed them....both my kids play high school hockey so in my house it's become an obession...

November 20, 2007  12:49 AM ET

time for Murray to get a fresh start it'll be good for him,,

November 20, 2007  03:02 PM ET

yeah, I think Murray will turn out to be more of a deal breaker for Boston than someone who others will want. He's done, and his contract is huge. Chiarelli is STILL cleaning up the messes of his predecessor. Send Murray out to SJ, they want rid of Marleau, and the owe the B's a favour!

November 20, 2007  07:47 PM ET

If anything Chiarelli has added to the mess (Chara and to a less extent Savard). I do however, like the way he fleeced the Leafs out of Rask for Raycroft.

hey bob, hockey has always been my favoite. never miss a game. you just don't hear me rave about it, because there has been little to rave about for years.

That right...they typically wait for a star to reach his prime, then dump him for marginal players. Bergeron will be next in the long line from Esposito to Thornton to get dumped.
As a Bruins fan, this has always been hard to watch. I'm still fuming from the Thornton trade.
The Espo trade was fair, but the Bruins getting Park meant they had no intention of keeping Orr...so in my mind they lost Espo, Orr and Vadnais and got Ratelle and Park, and never won again
They did good by Bourque by dealing him for the Cup, but got nothing on that one.
When these stories emerge, I always know what happens next...Murray and Bergeron are gone...this will go on 'till Jacobs goes away
