08:07 AM ET 04.15 | Mikhail Prokhorov is talking about "tantalizing glimpses," Avery Johnson is talking about the priority of signing Kris Humphries and Deron Williams is offering still more hope to Nets fans. As the Nets cleaned out their lockers Thursday after a playoff-less season, superstar point guard Deron Williams strongly suggested his future will reside in Brooklyn. "I like the organization a lot," said Williams, who will be a free agent after next season, assuming a lockout doesn't cancel the NBA's 2011-12 campaign. "I like the direction it's going. I could definitely see myself staying here." Williams, who will be moving his family to New Jersey, said he's open to signing a contract extension this offseason. "I would like to not have the distraction (of looming free agency) during the season," he said.

The vodka martinis aren't bad either.

Of course he wants to be at that new arena. Who would not?

I get suspicious when players angle for contracts instead of letting teams chase them. I suspect his latest surgery will affect his production moving forward so he wants to cash in... I don't blame him though. They say if you come across a rich fool you get all you can.

We'll Just see how that goes down....

They are going to build something nice in Brooklyn if D-will signs and AK goes there....

I mean a lineup of D-will, Morrow, AK, Hump, and Lopez with a bench of Farmar, Sasha, Outlaw, and James isnt to bad...

They just need a little depth up front and they are in the mix for a playoff birth....

D Will is his own man and therefore makes his own decisions. However, I always like to look at things in terms of what I would do.There is no way in hell I would stay with the Nets.

Why not?

Good luck back East, Bro.

Williams has over a year left on his current contract. Unless he signs an extention, this isn't even worth talking about now. Having said that--if the Nets don't begin showing some signs of becoming competitve, he'll be gone. Why would he choose to stay with a bottom feeder?

I think it is funny that Farmar went to NJ to be a backup first for D. Harris and now D. Williams. Although he is not a bad player, he didn't work on his game during his stint with the Lakers. It will be awhile, if ever, before the Nets become the Lakers of the East.

The nets are 2 players away for being 1 of the elite teams in the east. Celtics are getting old like Ray Allen which is a FA and KG which is a FA next year. So it comes down to only the Knicks who are in a winning mode now. Nets will upgrade there roster this offseason. Whoever Deron wants Nets will get.

Huge asteroid to make closest approach to Earth on Friday

CHELMSFORD, England -- An asteroid with the potential power of 15 atomic bombs will make its closest approach to Earth on Friday night when it passes just outside the orbit of the moon, news.com.au reported.

Nick James, of Chelmsford, southeastern England, captured video of the newly discovered Asteroid 2011 GP59 on Monday night showing the object appearing to blink on and off about once every four minutes.

The asteroid, captured with an 11-inch telescope, was about 2,081,000-miles away from Earth at the time.

"Usually, when we see an asteroid strobe on and off like that, it means that the body is elongated and we are viewing it broadside along its long axis first, and then on its narrow end as it rotates," said Don Yeomans, manager of NASA's Near-Earth Object Program Office at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif.GP59 is approximately 164 feet long, and we think its period of rotation is about seven-and-a-half minutes. This makes the object's brightness change every four minutes or so," he added.

While it might sound small, it is still five times bigger than an asteroid that exploded 9 miles above Indonesia in October, 2009.

That blast released as much energy as three atomic bombs, according to New Scientist magazine.

But Yeomans said there was no need to be concerned with the Asteroid 2011 GP59, which was discovered on April 8 by astronomers from the Observatorio Astronomico de Mallorca in Andalusia, Spain.

"There is no possibility of the small space rock entering Earth's atmosphere during this pass or for the foreseeable future," he said.

The asteroid will make its closest approach to Earth at a range of 331,000 miles -- just outside the moon's orbit -- on Friday at 3:09pm Eastern Time

if by 2 players away you mean 2 elite players (not so easy to attain) then sure...but you could say that about 90% of teams in the league...

btw not sure how the Knicks are the only team in win now mode with Miami/Chicago having better records and same or younger core players

Not as good as the Jason Kidd teams.
