08:58 AM ET 04.16 | Phil Jackson maintains that this season will be his last as an NBA coach. Even so, one league source said the Buss family is trying to convince Jackson to return in what could be a less taxing lockout-shorten season. Jerry Buss will likely be deliberate and guarded with any decision he makes on a potential replacement.

sweet I'm the first person to reply and not a spammer. With Jackson why replace at all? He still one of the best at his job. The only reason he should leave is if he's burned out. Let him retire if he wants to. I'm sure living at the beach with Jennie Buss is a hard thing to do.

He is a liar. Phony Phil will be back.

How do you coach 9 years, retire for only 1 year, then come back and coach for 11 more years?

Never trust a word he says.

Better to go out on top, Bro.

I kinda get a bad vibe from brian shaw, I think its cause he alwas has a clueless look about his face, and your HC has tso command respect. Kinda like lawrence frank....he just doesn't look like a HC.I wouldn't put the franchise in his hands

wow, it's all down hill when people start comparing you to Frank...Actually Shaw is the perfect fall guy for the job. Bring in another coach and you might bring in another system. Don't think they want to try and mix things up..

If that wasn't your intent, I apologize, but how do yiu know he couldn't win?he took a mj-less team to an ecfhe's been lucky enough to have great talent arou d him, but to say he couldn't win with a less talented team is ridiculous as no coach canYou win in the nba with players.Name me one coach who has even come close to winning with bad talent

Nate Mcmillan and Larry Brown did pretty good for the talent they had. Brown even beat PJ head to head when the Lakers were stacked.

Phil is a phony, he is the master of hopping on a stacked team then riding them to the top.

And you tell it the way you see it... Shows how dumb and artificial you are. You can't tell the real life from fantasy. And you pretend to coach young kids. How can you be such a liar and a hypocrite? You don't teach these kinds of attitudes to young kids if you do coach young kids... You have to teach kids to be true to themselves and give credit where credit is due. This is why I think you are such a major phony because you shouldn't teach kids to hate and you are hating too much. You let your hate do the thinking for you...

Bravo~! Great post !

Are we having a communication problem? I never said he cant win with bad players, no one can. But the fact of the matter is despite his great people management skills and coaching ability he has only coached teams with the most talented roster at the time from the Bulls to the Lakers always won with the most talented team and alot of times lost despite having the most talent. My point is the only time we saw what his coaching could do on a mediocre roster was the Kobe led Lakers from 2005-2007 and if I am not mistaken they never played past April.

I do remember back when he left the Bulls the Nets owner at the time offered him a job of coach, GM, President, a deal like Pat Riley has with the Heat. The owner even said the Phil can call the shots on everything. I won't over rule him. Phil said "No thank you. I'm waiting for the Laker job to open up." But at that time it was pre season and the Lakers had a coach. Phil has always picked his spots.

Coaching in the NBA is not like coaching at the collegiate or high school level. There is less teaching and more player management at the pro level. By the time players reach the NBA they are used to being the "top dog" at their school or club.

Managing egos is often overlooked but critical for success at the professional level. Phil Jackson's success with both Chicago and Los Angeles speaks volumes about the man.

In reference to the Nets job offer...

... Jackson stated "they don't have the power players that are necessry to win".

He may have been referring to frontcourt talent, or, top level talent in terms of "power players".

Either way, he's made it known that he wants to go to teams that are stacked and/or have a top 3 individual player on the roster.
