Should broomstick putter be legal in majors?

10:53 AM ET 04.16 | What would have happened if Adam Scott had won the Masters? The nation would still be celebrating, but debate would be resonating around the world about the rights and wrongs of a player winning a major championship using a broomstick putter. No one has ever done it. South African Tim Clark was second to Phil Mickelson in 2006 and now Scott was tied second in 2011. The purists despise the long stick, arguing it is not a golf swing as part of the club is anchored to the body, but the Royal and Ancient Golf Club and the USGA, the two controlling bodies when it comes to the rules of golf, have never banned it. Would it remain so if someone does win a major with the broomstick?

I agree, this is totally irrelevant. The golfer still has to make the put.

so you can make drivers drive farther and balls go farther but not us a putter that.....well still just putts? how about testing Tiger for HGH first and worry about a putter second...it's bad enough he looks like a girl using it...punishement enough

Well if nobody's won a major with it yet it's pretty clear that the long putter doesn't give an advantage. If it really did, they'd all be using it. Non-story.

Golf is great - driving is even better.

Another person who wrongly associates Tiger's past dominance to his driver and not his putter. While I believe Tiger was doping... doping doesnt help putting.

Tiger, while on that crazy run, was often in the top five of every putting statistic.

Watch Golf... then comment.

I hate the long putter but you know what its not illegal so they can use it.

Agree. They should outlaw all other putters and require the broomstick. If that's too easy, next comes a pool cue.

news must be going slow today...

BINGO!

They should have never allowed it in the first place. If you can't putt with a regular putter then get your friggin butt off tour.

Look at all the farts that use them. Veejay's days are done. I'm sick of looking at that ugly broomstick.

Finchem could ban them but that guy doesn't have hair one.

I'd rather keep the long-wand at the Master's and be done with Jim Nantz...

Hillwilly!! Does she love your long putter or the pen cap you use for a head cover? Is it worth using only for a couple strokes??
