09:20 AM ET 04.17 | Mike D'Antoni, making his playoff debut as Knicks head coach, got his hackles up when asked if a good representation in the first round will be good enough. D'Antoni's future could hinge on how well the Knicks fare versus Boston the first round. D'Antoni has one year left on is contract and his status could be tied to team president Donnie Walsh's uncertain future.

If future should have already been deteremined. Once you had players you thought you could win with, should have gotten a coach to make it happen.

Dandummy should be bounced no matter how the playoffs end........he isnt the coach that is going to help the knicks take the next step

dantoni did what he was supposed to do, get to the plyaoffs this year. If he does not make the 2nd round next year than he can be considered to be ousted. Dantoni has done his job period.

Knicks in 6 (hopefully..LOL)

ny threw away any chance for a first round win when they traded for anthony. they gave up way too much.

that trade had nothing to do w/this year and everything to do w/the rebuilding process. To many posters/fans do not realize, this is a rebuilding and in year 1 of this process. Making the playoffs in year 1 of rebuilding is 1 hell of a job in my book.

QUOTE(#9):

They weren't doing that trade for this year necessarily. Melo was brought in to make them better for the future.New York before the trade and New York after the trade is the same thing in this years playoffs. They are probably more dangerous now than before. With Melo they have a much higher upside. Denver will continue to be a 1st round playoff exit.

i agree that the knick are a little more dangerous now after the trade than before. No one expects the knicks to get out of the 1st round anyway, that trade like U said is for the future not this year. The knicks were not going to make the conference finals this year regardless so U make the trade to secure the future. Now the Knicks only need a defensive minded center that is big, and they will be a tough out next year. Than get a legit PG like CP3 or Dwill and they are a championship caliber team.

Dolan needs to sign up walsh and let him complete the job, Walsh and Dantoni are on the right track...patience and they will be there...if the fans and Dolan get impatient, than the knicks will almost be starting all over.

get a defensive minded coach..thats all the crap I always here...sure lets go get 1 than realize we do not have defensive minded players, so trade them all and start over...REAL SMART.

QUOTE(#4):

Mid season? The guy deserves a chance to see what he could do with this teamIf they play decently and lose, he deserves a full training campIf he gets blown out, he should be goneWe all know the team is missing a LARGE piece in the middle and a full commitment to d, but I truly believe that is on Amare. He needs to play like the manchild he could be

Amare is a forward, not center...

... NY would be much improved with a legit center paired with Amare and Carmelo up front.

Potentially best frontline in NBA if they signed someone like Lopez from N.J.

QUOTE(#5):

Until the Knicks round out the roster with defenders then D'Antoni may be the perfect coach for them. They will beat you with a barrage on offense to overcome their short comings on defense. It's not optimum playoff basketball and the Celtics are the worst team to try that game plan on. But at this point it's their best play.

Their best shot indeed, MMA...

... which means they don't have a legitimate shot.

They are getting swept by Boston.

D'Antoni figures to return...

... next year will determine his future more than this year's playoffs.

NY is definitely more viable with Carmelo than prior to his acquisition.

Come on.Making the playoffs IN THE EAST.Big dif.New Orleans in the Eastern conf. would have been 4th or 5th seed instead of 8th in the West....Just saying, perspective.Yes NY has improved from last year, but look at the tools they have this year. They should be a lot better.

The playoffs will show, bro'...

... mid season trades take adjusting.

They may surprise in the playoffs, although I'm predicting they'll be swept.

Next year can begin anew for the coaches and players.
