08:13 AM ET 04.20 | It appears that, for now, Washington's pursuit was merely perceived. The Nationals have been scouting Rays center fielder B.J. Upton, according to a baseball source, but the club doesn't have interest in acquiring him right now. The source pointed out that it was routine scouting that is normally done during the season. The Nationals have not had any talks with the Rays about Upton. The Nationals are happy with Rick Ankiel, their current center fielder, according to the source, who pointed out that general manager Mike Rizzo brought Ankiel to Washington and played a major role in Ankiel playing every day. Although Ankiel is 17 for 57 (.211) with a home run and four RBIs entering Tuesday's action, the Nationals love his work in center field.

love his work at center field? not to long ago the nationals wwere complainning about ankiel performance and lack of production, and now everything its just like nothing really has happen!!!

Oh yeah, Upton would put the Nats right over the top. Let's see now, Upton hit .241 in 2009, .237 in 2010, and is hitting .232 so far this year. Last year he struck out 164 times in just 536 at bats.

He used to get on base at lot, back in 2007 & 2008, but he seems to have lost that ability.

I wouldn't give up much for him. He's approaching 27 and is in his 7th year in the majors. About time to stop drooling over his potential.

"The Nationals love his work in center field"????? What, his work handling cninchbugs and crabgrass? Is he on the groundskeeping crew? I mean sure his batting average is low, but look how little power he's displayed...........................

By "love his work in center field" means his defense.

I have been waiting for BJ to become a star. He has all the tools but just seems to not be interested at time. He isn't running as much this year either.

Maybe the light has gone off in Matt Kemp's head.....he an BJ could be two of the best in the game I think.....

Ankiel, was brought in by the GM and he will go when the GM goes. This is all a smoke screen.

Ankiel is overrated (can't hack it as a pitcher so you take 'roids and pick up a bat?). Upton might be even more overrated

Hopefully Ankiel will improve soon.
