Lucchino to ditch Sox for Dodgers?

08:16 AM ET 04.22 | Would Larry Lucchino trade his Red Sox for Dodgers blue? His work in Boston is done. He still has a home in La Jolla. Why not rescue the Dodgers to cap off a spectacular career in baseball? Lucchino sounded annoyed when I asked him about the possibility. "This is a highly charged, controversial issue of some real importance to baseball, and I'm not going to complicate it any further by saying anything or making any comment about the Dodgers situation," he said from his Boston office last night. OK. That's a non-answer, I told him. ... I gently asked Lucchino if he realized his vague response might be interpreted as leaving the door open. "No, I don't realize I'm doing that," he said. "I realize I'm not making any public comment on the Dodger situation."

Leave it to the Boston Globe. I doubt Luccino would sell his interest in the Red Sox to take over the Dodgers just to rescue them.

You are correct in reminding us that it is the Globb running this story and Shank shaugnessy writing it.

Obviously a guy with a very vivid imagination.

Larry has been a little pissed off since 2005, when he tried his little power coupe against Theo and lost. Ownership sided with Theo and Larry lost a little power. So I wouldn't be surprised if he saw another opportunity and took it.

You'd be surprised how much of that stuff is played up in the media and how much looking at your rising bank balance will soften the blow, but anything can happen.

QUOTE(#5):

It will be interesting to see who takes over that team with all of that debt they owe....unless the Dodgers declare bankruptcy and the new owner(s) start with a clean slate.

There is no reason for any team that draws 3.5 million fans a year to have any team related debt, the Dodgers should be like the Yankees in that they should have more money then they know what to do with.

Tommy Lasorda should get some mob money together and save the team!

You can put the Dodger franchise on auto-pilot and it will turn a profit.
