Inside Ricky's reinstatement

When Ricky Williams applied for reinstatement in 2005, agent Leigh Steinberg typed a one-line request. This time, Williams sent commissioner Roger Goodell a lengthy, hand-written letter noting a return would allow him to take care of his family. Goodell, who never met with Williams before the decision, apparently liked the note and acknowledged it in confidential paperwork Steinberg received.

legalize it, don't criticize it.

He liked the note, but loved it when he saw Ricky had cleaned up his garage, washed and waxed his limo and took Gram Goodell to the mall for a spa day....

Some people just don't "get it." Pacman Jones is one of them. I wonder how good he can say, "would you like fries with that?"

November 21, 2007  10:57 AM ET

I wonder if Ricky wrote the note on one of his rolling papers!?!?!

Who wouldn't like a note written in crayon. PLEASE, I hate that crap "allow me to take care of my family..." If he gave a **** about his family, he would not have smoked his chances away...typical

It's unfair to say he didn't care about his family. Ricky is a weird dude. He isn't a bad guy, by any means. Not violent, not in trouble with the law, his teammates always raved about him, doesn't drink or pop pills. Just likes his weed. I have to admit, I don't want my kids hanging with Mr. Herb, but I enjoy his presence once in a while and I just don't understand what all the fuss about it is. Look at the idiot Jets fans drinking an spitting on women after legalized drinking. After a few tokes, I think we can all pretty much agree it's time to mellow out and order pizza.

I'd like to see Rickey do well but his age and the fact that he's not been playing may catch up to him.

November 21, 2007  03:34 PM ET

but will he be allowed to keep his bong in his locker?

Some attention-starved gal with a webcam probably flashed some e-nippage in the direction of the Jets faithful.

Think Chris Berman has a new nickname for Ricky "Where there's smoke there's fire" Williams?
