Joe Gibbs isn't going anywhere this offseason but to scout potential first-round picks, meet free agents and watch game film. Gibbs is not getting fired. He's not quitting.

Good news. They'll lose more games.

November 21, 2007  08:38 AM ET

He and Al Saunders called a great game against Dallas. Dallas won because they were simply the better team. He finally allowed QB Jason Campbell to throw the ball down the field and play to his potential. I just hope this is a trend that continues if he has decided to stick around for another season. As for draft picks, the Skins need linemen on both sides of the ball.

The Redskins are a team on the way up and Gibbs has been the major reason for that. Too many forget how they stumbled around for years before he got there.
The difference between The Redskins, Cowboys and Giants is not very much, despite what Cowboy fans may think.

I hate the skins, but Joe Gibbs is a good man, and good coach. They will be better next year. Damn it!!

November 21, 2007  08:59 AM ET

Gibbs will find a way to keep them competitive before he retires. Doubt he can take the hogs back to the big game, but he'll push them to respectable next season.

AAARedskins:

While I agree with you that the offense did very well against Dallas, the defense was another matter altogether. T.O. ran all over them because they did not bother to cover him. Double-covering T.O. is a no-brainer. Go back and watch, IMO the defensive gameplan cost the Redskins the game hands down.

AAARedskins,

That is crap that Dallas won because they are a better team. Dallas won because Greg Williams ran the cover 2 all day not pressuring Romo (unless there was a bad snap), and still left TO wide open.

Bandit: You are right... for whatever reason the Redskins D has lost its spunk from the beginning of the season. Last week they gave up 33 points to an Eagles team they gave up 12 to the first week.

GNP: You couldn't be more wrong. TO has 1 TD catch.. maybe.. if Sean Taylor plays. TO is petrified of Sean Taylor... watch for his alligator arms next game.

Hope Gibbs sees JC's potential and Sunday's offensive display is a sign of things to come.

Yeah, that's why Dallas won. Good thing the Cowboys got lucky with that Greg Williams thing. The fact that the Cowboys are 9-1 against pretty much the same teams that the Redskins are 5-5 against, means nothing. Maybe Daniel Snyder should replace Greg Williams with a football genius like yourself.

The Redskins lost because they didn't have an answer for Owens, Witten or Romo. The Redskins played a good game, but they lost because they aren't as good as Dallas.

Well it isn't like there's a host of candidates that are obviously better than Gibbs, unless you're one of those Gibbs haters that thinks he's the worst coach ever.

The way he's been handling the Skins the past couple of years reminds me of Schottenheimer. Whether that's good or bad... <shrug>

November 21, 2007  09:51 AM ET

Five!.02,

Yes the Cowboys are pretty good, but if T. O. hads been even marginally taken care of.....the 'skins would have won.

The Defensive gameplan cost the Redskins that game.

November 21, 2007  09:55 AM ET

Bandit, you are dead wrong...having half of your starting DB's out with injuries is going to cause defense on any team to not play as well as they would if those players were healthy and playing. As stated previously by NCL2009, if Taylor had been in that game, there's no way T.O. has 4 TD's. No team threw the ball deep after week 6 against the Skins after Sean Taylor showed he wouldn't allow a catch and could pick the ball of a good amount of the time.

NCL2009, the reason the defense allowed those points to the Eagles was because Taylor hurt his knee in the 2nd Quarter and right after that happened, the Eagles started to exploit the deep pass down the middle of the field. Since Prioleau isn't 1/10 of the cover safety that Taylor is, both the Eagles and Cowboys showed this. Just wait until Dec. 30, I guarantee that T.O. won't have 2 TD catches in that game and he'll have under 75 yards receiving.

So none of those guys had back-ups?

The Redskins as professional athletes are unable to double-cover a player from the other team?

Go back and look. Shawn Springs looked like he never played the position before and he had no help. T.O. ran free all day.....as a result of a bad D plan. Take your chances with Crayton or Witten beating you, they can be contained. T.O. one on one all day with an ancient Springs.....tha is a cake walk.

Double-covering to avoid one of the best WRs in the game from scoring FOUR t.d.s against you in a tight game is NOT exotic....it is very basic. And the Skins never adapted.

If the coaching staff can't figure that out then I don't know what to tell you.

That is just incompetence. Snyder sure is not getting what he paid for.

Then again, I am not a fan of either team, so it is fine with me. Go ahead, don't double-cover T.O. and then blame it on injuries....dos not bother me a bit.

Gotta love the no frills articles like these. Succinct and to the point.

I completely agree that back-ups do not have the same talent and yes there will be a drop off. You make a good point. That still does not excuse the coaching staff for allowing T.O. to run free.

T.O. has been arguably the one of the most effective deep threats in the game over the past 8-10 years. He must be double-covered. End of story.

They chose to play zone when it mattered most. It was as easy as a practice for Romo after that.....just like in the Giants game. T.O. will beat single coverage and Romo will look for him. That was not a secret.

It is a basic as bread, you do not let thier biggest threat roam free.

That being said, nice job by the Redskins O. I did not give them a chance against the Cowboys in Dallas.

Too bad their D let T.O. run wild and score 4 t.ds.

Cowboy fans, your team is good, but if mediocre teams like the Bills and the Skins are giving them a handful....what will the Patriots do to them in the Super Bowl? Green Bay should be an interesting test.
