NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell on Tuesday reconfirmed the league's desire for a negotiated end to its stalemate with cable companies over the NFL Network. But during a conference call with reporters, Goodell acknowledged that "we are not about to reach a deal, and we do not anticipate reaching a deal under the current circumstances." He said the league is continuing to pursue legislative and regulatory relief in statehouses nationwide and in Washington.

Seems that this might become a moot point if the FCC ala carte proposal for the cable industry comes into being.

Haha. What a great pic of Goodell.

I hope they get this **** figured out soon. In two weeks the game on the NFL Network is Cowboys vs. Packers (a great game) and then the last game of the season is Pats (maybe undefeated) vs. Giants...a thriller.
Goodell...get this fixed SOON!!

yeah that image is gold. i can almost hear Goodell doing a Popeye scat singing impression.

If I miss the Pats final regular season game because Time Warner and the NFL are too busy wedging their heads even further in, I will make it my personal mission to hunt them all down and sprinkle birdseed on their cars every time they park them.

The NFL is wrong here...I don't blame the cable companies for standing their ground. It sucks that we won't be able to watch those games, but such is life.

If you think this will be decided by the end of this season, you have a lot of misguided optimism. The NFL is going let it play out and see how big of an uproar there will be with the above-mentioned games not available on cable. Judging by the interest in the blog, there will NOT be too much b!tching.

That picutre of Goodell is from his tryout at American Idol.

Seriously, the NFL is the bad guy here...their greed is making the class of American sports look bad...they thought the fans would naturally uproar and side with them. Too bad they don't really know their fans at all.

November 21, 2007  04:00 PM ET

Yeah and I'm going to have to fet out of the house with my mother visiting so I can see the game. Ought to be real popular.

November 21, 2007  08:04 PM ET

This is crazy, I have Wide Open West.. They have the NFL network but because of this deal, they blackout the games....and show old reruns.
what a joke. the channel is a waste.....

November 22, 2007  06:26 AM ET

It sickens my stomach to know that I will miss some great games. As an American, I know we are all spoiled enough, but if the consumer wants it, GIVE IT TO THEM. Aren't we paying enough for cable television? In what way does this affect the fans? I'll tell you! Those without the freaking holier than thou NFL network cannot some of the most imprtant games of the season. What if those sorry Pats go 16-0? I can't stand them, but I would like to see the record broken. And **** Time Warner for not working out a deal to get NFL network. Shame on you. Something got to give here. Your customers want it so go get it. Bend a little if the other guy won't. WE NEED RELIEF.

November 22, 2007  06:27 AM ET

And God bless the little people

November 22, 2007  08:36 AM ET

Are you kidding me, legislative and regulatory relief. Stuffing for brains lawyers & politicians can fix anything thou, right? What about letting the people paying the bills decide. Why does the goverment have to be involved in sports.

November 22, 2007  09:37 AM ET

If I miss the Dallas-Greenbay game the NFL can hold the hand on their a--. This league makes more money than any other and to schedule important games on their own little network and not the larger reach cable outlets is a sign of arrogance of major proportions, even for the NFL.

November 23, 2007  01:36 AM ET

how come mr god-elf you can't make those explendit deals with nbc, cbs or fox.... if you put games in nfl network that belongs to the nfl and charges cable company "dearly I will say"... what did you thought it was going to happen.... even if you take the nfl network out of cable... that you won't... cable will survive... more fans of history chanel, mtv, hbo, etc, etc, etc than the nfl... so what is your remedy genius????? pay per view next??? directly from athens greece????? globalize this!!!!

It warms the cockles of my heart that as a card carrying citizen of Soviet Canuckistan, that I wll see each and every one of the games broadcast on the NFL network on either basic cable on TSN (for a few shekels) or on TSN HD (for a few shekels more)....

Of course I opt for the HD flavour.

As always, proud to be a Canadian.
