08:15 AM ET 04.28 | Frank McCourt is not going quietly. McCourt expressed defiance and outrage during a news conference in New York on Wednesday after McCourt said Selig vetoed McCourt's agreed-upon deal with Fox for a regional sports network. McCourt said the deal would infuse the club with enough cash to be competitive on the field for the forseeable future. McCourt went so far as to describe Selig as "un-American" for what he sees as an attempt by Selig to unlawfully seize McCourt's property after MLB assumed control of the Dodgers last week. "No one handed me the Dodgers and no one is going to take it away from me," McCourt said. ... "I am not going anywhere. This is the team I love and the community I love. These are my hard-earned dollars I put into this franchise, and I am going to protect my rights, obviously."

A sad state for a great franchise.

QUOTE(#4):

Can't disagree with that - but - if the settlement between the McCourts comes - MLB has no right to take the franchise.

I don't think that's necessarily true Lou. MLB teams are "franchises" and as such the parent company (in this case MLB) has some leeway in doing what is needed to protect the brand name.

The level of ineptitude displayed by McCourt and his gold digging wife is staggering and I have a hard time believing that any court would not find their actions detrimental to the game.

QUOTE(#9):

I can't necessarily disagree in general - but it is just hard for me to see just yanking it from them without some additional due process. I think the key will be the McCourts settling things. Then see if things improve for the team. If not - I have far less problem with managing a change in ownership - where the McCourts get something for what little they dumped in.

I'm not suggesting that MLB can just take the team away from the McCourt's without fair compensation and I don't think that what Bud Selig wants. I think that until the divorce is settled MLB should appoint someone to oversee the day to day operations and I also think they should place a reasonable deadline for Frank and his wife to settle their dispute so the team can be sold.

Sure, I though I killed it with my little jab at Heidi.

A formerly great franchise. But you were right, California is a sad state.

It's his hard borrowed dollars. He borrowed all the money he used to buy the Ddogers. The reason he's so desparate to get the deal done with Fox is so he can borrow against it.
