Harper's skeletons: Genuinely disliked

08:12 AM ET 04.29 | Bryce Harper's bench-clearing stare-down Wednesday had some remembering the knocks on the talented young hitter. He showed tendencies to yell at opposing players, teammates and umpires, and he was ejected from a game in the Junior College World Series in June after drawing a line in the dirt in the batter's box to show an umpire that a called strike was outside. It was his second ejection of the season and earned him a two-game suspension. There was this from Baseball Prospectus before Harper was drafted: "It's impossible to find any talent evaluator who isn't blown away by Harper's ability on the field, but it's equally difficult to find one who doesn't genuinely dislike the kid."

There have been a lot of ball players who weren't good guys or even good team mates but if he can produce at a top level people will put up with him.

Harper is new to the majors, so, better put up some good numbers if he's gonna be a Pete Rose type of jerk.

Barry Bonds was disliked by most, but who wouldn't have wanted him in their LF slot for 15 years? Many people who are extraordinary in a few areas are very poor in others. Harper has a very low IQ and is probably a future batting champion. I wouldn't want to have to spend 60 seconds in his company, but I would like to have him at 1B for the next 15 years.
But what a rotten human being!

I have never heard anyone say he has a low IQ. But yeah, everyone says he a total doooosh. Of course, adluts have been worshiping him since he was a kid so it's no wonder he has a warped idea of his importance.

Everybody on this board understands it really doesn't matter what kind of guy he is - maybe the Nats will trade for Luke Scott so he'll have someone to hang with.

QUOTE(#14):

IQ can't be too high if he treats his fans that way. Whether he asked for it or not. Man-up and get with the program. You're one player in a single franchise that belongs to league. Do it and be a professional about it. Not a myopic visioned, self-centered, neanderthalic slime-ball.

You can be smart and still be a jerk.

Looks like he's in line for a nice slice of humble pie some day.

I bet this guy's attitude will be swept under the rug and everyone will be claiming him to be the greatest. When Barry bonds was a prick you had folks all over the net, saying he was a worthless piece of trash, prick, horrible teammate etc.

Funny how these things play out

Teams will put up with him until his skills fade. Then - good bye. He'll be like Bonds. He was still good enough to DH but he'd slipped enough that no one wanted to put up with him. It'll be the same for this moron if he turns out to be as good as they think.

This is just my opinion, but who the hell cares about Bryce Harper? A snot nose rookie that has a chip on his shoulder for what ever reason. For most people, the opportunity to play any sport for a living would wash away any type of jack-asstic behavior. But I guess he feels entitled. I hope his poor attitude gets him into a boatload of trouble, and he loses everything and winds up working in a carwash somewhere. Douc**b*g!!

Ty Cobb wasn't particularly liked, now was he?
