Ponder is a solid QB and they addressed their most pressing need.

I've been saying all along that there are too many teams looking for quarterbacks, and the price will be high. In this case, 4 teams decided to use their first-round picks for guys who don't really have "success" written all over them.

But what's Minnesota to do? Their defense is already at least serviceable, but they will certainly be at the bottom of their division with the signal-callers they had on the roster as of yesterday morning. Yeah, they're going to be at the bottom anyway, but it won't be as bad if Ponder turns out to be even a middle-of-the-road guy who can just not cough up the ball between handoffs to Peterson.

With the first pick in the 2012 NFL draft, the Vikings select...

If this comment is meant to be serious, you're missing the point. The point is he wasn't worth the 12th overall pick, when they have other needs and there are better players for those needs. Ponder most likely would have been available in the 2nd round, and they probably would have been able to trade up to get him.

Minnesota and Tennessee were the only teams than panicked, and Jacksonville was the benefactor.

I don't fault the pick, but you have to believe they could have traded down and still taken him. I would hope they at least tried.
Or taken some one else at 12 and traded back up at the end of the round to get him.

I pondered over that pick as well.

With the way Detroit is building up their pass rush, the last thing I would want to be is a rookie QB in the NFC North.

Well my friend, Minnesota thought he was worth the 12th pick. What you thought they should have done dosen't matter.

They needed a quarterback, and so did a lot of other teams. Did he go too high? Probably. But would he have been around for them on Friday? I doubt it. We'll have to wait and see if he will end up being the best QB that was available to them, but I think Minnesota had to do what they did.

Now, is he going to buy a ranch and call it the Ponderosa?
