The Winnipeg ... Thrashers?

08:35 AM ET 04.29 | The forecast for NHL hockey in Winnipeg remains cloudy. "Do I believe the Coyotes are coming to Winnipeg -- my answer would be no," mayor Sam Katz said on Wednesday. "I don't believe that. I believe the Coyotes will stay in Phoenix and they will do everything they can, because I happen to know some of the commitments that were made when they went there. And there were commitments that -- if they were not fulfilled -- there could easily be a lawsuit. So I think you have to start looking at some of the other potential franchises." While the NHL, the City of Glendale and Matt Hulsizer's focus remains on keeping the Coyotes in Arizona, the future of the Atlanta Thrashers also hangs in the balance and sources say Atlanta is waiting for the league to determine the fate of the Coyotes.

Uhhhhh . . . . . . Yeah. Moving right along.

I'd be fine with it. I would be especially with it if having at least one more Candian team would make Bettman's little head pop like an olde zit

Winnipeg has never been more famous in the sports world ... but unlike Kate "she's not actually that hot" Middleton, she ain't never gonna be nuthin but an old bridesmaid.

Put Kate next to Camile and she looks like Miss U.K. But you're right about Winnipeg, plus I read it is one cold winter spot.

Meh, take the Panthers 1st...Florida doesn't need 2 teams.

I would agree but I think the panthers are tied up in a long term lease with their stadium that would make it difficult for them to move. Ive said it before but what's so special about Winnipeg? They had a team but it moved, why should they get another one? Besides everyone in Winnipeg is already watching the NHL on TV already. They're not creating a new market up there.

I just found Winnipeg on a map . Man I bet it gets cold there .

Cold, Hockey? That just doesn't mix.

I'll believe that when I see it. I think the Coyotes will move before the Thrashers will. At least Glavine's trying to keep the team here. Who besides Gary Buttgoblin wants the Yotes in Phoenix?

Or move the Flyers little sister to Winnipeg, who cares.

The Winnipeg Thrashers are a junior league team.

SI seems to have a woody for Winnipeg.

Was gonna say that, you beat me to it, ha.

I love that Gary "All is Good with the NHL" Bettman has himself a queue for teams needing assistance/to move. He takes care of the Phoenix issue, "Next!". Atlanta. "Next!" Dallas. "Next!"

Sam wouldn't have a clue in the first place, though - and he's in personal deflect-mode - Viola, a press release! Sam's given to telling pork-pies to get re-upped - and, now he's got a surly electorate to deal with.

Hey guys, the current Winnipeg Thrashers (Champions) are a Midget team, not junior.

April 29, 2011  02:47 PM ET

Hey guys, just clarify for you, the current Winnipeg Thrashers are not a Junior team, they are a Midget team. National Champions by the way.

What does opening up new markets have to do with it? That sort of thinking is what got the NHL into having teams where they don't belong in the first place.

The fact that folks in Winnipeg are already watching on TV only bolsters the claim that Winnipeg should get a team back. Quebec City should also be considered for relocation of one of the southern teams. As long as those two cities have viable arenas, they are good to go.
