Dooley aims to improve Vols' rep off the field

08:25 AM ET 05.02 | Under Lane Kiffin, Tennessee had developed a reputation off the field, and not one that was all good for the Vols. When Derek Dooley took over as the head football coach at Tennessee, he had plenty of problems to fix on the field with a roster thin on talent and short on bodies, partly due to attrition from the turnover of consecutive coaching changes. As he's in the early stages of his second year of fixing those problems, Dooley also is focusing heavily on changing the Volunteers off the field. "I could talk forever about this," Dooley said Friday after his team spent the afternoon at the Knoxville Police Department's training facility. "I've always felt like we have a responsibility in the community, our football team and how we represent the community, and we're in a leadership position with young people."

I thought research showed that the CFB teams that win the most is proportional to those with the highest arrest incidents. Was I wrong?

Yes.

Hats off to a coach, trying to make a real difference. Just don't blow your cover, like my team's coach did.

Getting rid of Kiffin was a major step in improving their reputation.

If he can figure out how to do this without recruiting choirboys, I hope he shares it with the rest of CFB.

Does that mean no more "hostess" cupcake parties?

Improving ones image will be hard to do in the SEC. Too many criminals and too little time.

Kind of premature since the season is only a month old. See if you can post th same comment in late August.

Now that's forward thinking! Make sure your players know the way to the police station... it speeds up the bail process.

Most of us do too. If he proves not to be a great coach however, I think he'd be an incredible AD. He was the AD at Louisiana Tech afterall.

And don't be jealous of the 4-3-6 Colonel. It will be all the rage in a few years.

Until he gets rid of Janzen Jackson... I will remain skeptical...Getting rid of+depends on production

I have a feeling Janzen is getting rid of himself.

Very jealous, I think we should be able to use it too. LOL

You have so many teams to pull for, Colonel, which "we" are you referring to this time?
