Magic shopping for shooting guard, could move Redick

08:08 AM ET 05.03 | If there aren't many upgrades at the position to be had via free agency, J.J. Redick could be flipped for that upgrade. When Orlando and the Phoenix Suns effectively swapped starting shooting guards Vince Carter and Jason Richardson this season in a blockbuster, the Magic knew J-Rich was a rental. The one thing Richardson and Carter had in common: They both can become free agents this summer. The Magic could be looking for another new two-guard -- once again. Richardson has declared that he'd love to re-sign as Dwight Howard's wing man. And general manager Otis Smith says, "We like J-Rich, but we don't know what's going to happen this summer." ... Of course, the Magic could always try to trade for a shooting guard, offering either power forward Brandon Bass or Ryan Anderson -- or Redick.

Thats not their problem.....They need to shop for a PG....Will maybe they should go after Miller if Portland doesnt retain him....

Hmmm... interesting pair for NJ to take (Howard and J-Rich). They'd match up well against NY.

Better sign Howard before worrying about signing his wing man...

Howard is coming to Boston. PLEASE!!!

So the magic think they're going to flip jj (who's an improved player) but s a sixth man type for a legit upgrade at the sg?
please explain how that will happen, cause they're going to have to add more and I dont see what tjey have that's desirable

None of those guys are better than J-Rich or JJ as sixth man. If anything they need to stay putt and bring back the same group of guys. Stability and chemistry will work more to their favor than flipping key components...

I agree.
They should resign J Rich, and J Rich has stated he wants to stay, but how much will J Rich resign for if he stays is the question?

I agree with the stability part....but imo.....they need to marbury eithet gil or turk
Just pay them to go away til they become an expiring contract and let the other guys get more pt

This is another article by Brian Schmitz...affectionately referred to as BS by Orlando fans. Just don't think everything he writes is "the magic think" and you will be ok. Unless you hear it from Otis it's just this guy filling up paper every day.

You're right, none of the suggested players are better than Reddick.

Otis is notoriously tight lipped. He isn't telling anyone anything but that doesn't stop BS from talking like he knows. Unless you see an Otis quote then it's all just fodder to fill the paper up.

I know that Redick when comparing contracts might have the least expensive contract to move but getting rid of Arenias would make much more sense since he's not really a point guard and a player that you basically have turn lose to make plays. Understanding that his contract is LARGE and difficult to move will hinder the Magic from becoming relevant next season. The Magic need a couple of big bodies to compliment Howard. Mistake for the Magic that led to the team's demise was getting rid of Lewis and Gortat. One of those two players should have remained with the team, Lewis in my opinion should definitely stayed because he could stretch the floor and open things up for Howard and the guards.

Nobody is taking Arenas without Howard. First off, there is no advantage to taking just Arenas for another team and secondly if there were a market, the Magic would need to trade for multiple large contracts and/or a first round pick. Neither of the above options make sense to the Magic. I would rather swallow the contract and keep the pick instead of taking on money to replace Arenas and lose a pick.
