Thrashers on sale for only $110M

08:27 AM ET 05.03 | The Thrashers may be had for a tick over $100 million. The group that owns the Atlanta Thrashers is looking for $110 million for the NHL club from investors that would include former Atlanta Braves pitcher Tom Glavine. We valued the money-losing Thrashers at $135 million in December. The Thrashers have made the playoffs only once in their 11 seasons and averaged just 13,403 at Philips Arena this past season. ... If the Phoenix Coyotes do not move to Winnipeg after the NHL unloads the team, then True North Entertainment and Sports will make an offer for the Thrashers. True North would pay $170 million of which $60 million would go the NHL as a relocation fee. Other than the first two years Ted Turner owned the Thrashers, hockey has never been a financial success in Atlanta. But for $110 million it is worth the risk.

I hope Glavine & Co. buy the team & keep them here. Winnipeg can get someone else.

wow ... and what was A-clod's, and Jeter's last contracts worth? One of the 2 of them could buy the team outright...

Pocket change.

Can I ask why they need to stay in Atlanta? The Flames didn't work...What makes the Thrashers any different?

Let's put them in Rock Ridge. Now we will have to tear down the town first so let's send them a black sheriff and if that doesn't work, Mongo can take care of things.......

Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn.

Well, as long as you've been thinking about long-term strategy I'll vote for you as CEO and you can put me down for an extra $5..

You want to get in the ownership group too Canuck? Phantom and I have to make plans since we're both down 0-2 as well.

I'll chip in $10, but only if you let me be GM....

First move, Evander Kane for Mike Komiserak.

Have to think about it Argos. I don't want to have you calling Burke for advice and you can't trade our first rounder...............ever! (But, send the $10 soon!)

Is that American or Canadian $$?

As for GM, I was thinking of Slapshot as he is the most "experienced" of the ownership group so far (having watched hockey longer than most of us here). If you have ties with the ownership group of the Leafs, we could use a CFO should you be interested in that.

Jeez, put that team in Quebec City and get it over with. Georgia is not hockey country and no amount of effort from Buttman is going to change that.

Agreed. The Quebec hockey fans have been traveling around the country all year going to games. Get one of these teams that can't possibly make it where they are and give it to the fans that can support it. It's time the Islanders move on as well.

I hope it's Canadian $ Phantom. Worth more than ours you know. And a great idea for CFO. We trust you with the money Argos! (Just not sure about the roster) :-)

Mr Wang has already stated the Isle will be on the move after the Nassau lease is up ...
I am sure he would have tried to buy out of it, if he had any money left

May 3, 2011  10:57 AM ET

Crazy cheap, really. Including that $60 million moving fee. If you had the money, why would you NOT do this? Guaranteed Bettman makes them add more $ to the pot. The NHL stands to make more money off an "expansion" to Quebec or Winnipeg than they would off letting this team sell and move for that price.

If Glavine can make it work, God bless him. He needs some big pockets, like George Soros (Swartz).
