10:17 AM ET 05.03 | Aston Villa have suffered another setback after losing out to Real Madrid in the race to sign Turkey midfielder Nuri Sahin. Villa had been alerted to Sahin's likely availability, after he rejected terms for a new contract at Borussia Dortmund, and had enquired about the prospects of luring him to the Barclays Premier League. However, Real has beaten Villa to the punch after agreeing to meet the release clause in his current contract and receiving word from Sahin that he will head for the Bernabeu at the end of the season.

Bayern Power!

SAF saying Rooney and Cheech will be rested against Schalke on Wednesday. Nothing like resting players for a CL semi-final.

Not sure how Sahin could choose Real over Villa. Villa has the better tradition and much more money. Not sure which club has more fans. I guess when Sahin wakes up in the morning he feels more Spanish.

Cuz Villa is Nike.

Butt stays. Kraft goes. Sahin is royally screewwwwing Dortmund. Bad for the Bundesliga, but, then again, he's no German.

No love for marca.com?

Hmmm, Aston Villa (a team which could be relegated this season) or Real Madrid (a team likely to challenge for every trophy they are eligible for)... That is a tough choice....

Props to Bayern though for calling this one yesterday.

I also listed player salary (4 million euro annually) and transfer fee (10 million euro), two things left off this summary.

Where do you think they heard about it?

I mean, who doesn't want to live in lovey Birmingham over slummy Madrid?

For those that missed it late yesterday.

Abidal is back from injury and is available for the game today.

I think you all might be forgetting the issue of playing time. I guess you have to have confidence in yourself that you will be able to break through even though many before have not been able to. Either way I don't think very many would ever choose Villa over Madrid/anywhere else.

Do you think tonight's game is going to be crap-tacular?

Well, Adebayor should be out of the way....

Germans in general would be a much more likeable lot if they had even an elementary grasp on sarcasm...

Not necessarily because Madrid now HAS to attack which should open up the game a bit more.

I was trying to think what impact this could have, and if Sahin can play with an width, I could see Ronaldo moving to a more central pairing with a Pipa/Benzema pairing with di Maria and Sahin wide and Ozil in the middle. Ozil hasn't looked bad out wide, but he'd need to improve his fitness dramatically.

But Barcelona doesn't. I expect 60 passes between the back line before Barca looks to enter the final third of the field.

By inference you slandered the Turks. Turkish Air sponsors Barca. UEFA will not stand for your impudence...

I kid. I kid.
