08:01 AM ET 05.04 | LT is so over that whole "NFL's best running back" thing. Last season for the Jets, running back LaDainian Tomlinson had 219 carries for 914 yards, and started 13 games. This year, he doesn't want those numbers to be so high. "I would really love to just come out of the backfield and run routes," Tomlinson said. ... Tomlinson understands and embraces a more specialized role this season, something he is well-suited for, as he caught 52 passes for 368 yards last season. The future Hall of Famer was a welcome check-down option for Sanchez and somewhat of a security blanket for the offense. "I would love to be the best third-down back in the league," said Tomlinson, one of 14 Jets players in attendance at a week-long camp. "I have been the best running back in the league before; now, at the end of my career, I would love to be the best third-down back."

New title--- Benchwarmer/waterboy

May 4, 2011  11:14 AM ET

not 100% sold those carries will come with the Jets

May 4, 2011  11:23 AM ET

and he is no longer quick enough to be the best third down back anyways

May 4, 2011  11:42 AM ET

So wait a minute now let's see if I have this right?
L/T's on the books for the' Not Yets' in 2011 for $2.42M and he now wants
to part-time his work (carry) schedule so he can be the best 3rd down back in the NFL????

That mentality may have floated well in San Diego but you might just want to re-package
that idea for the NY press....Oh and let me know how it works out for you..
