Wings, Sharks (pretend to?) shuffle lines

08:21 AM ET 05.04 | It's that time of year: gamesmanship time. Detroit Red Wings coach Mike Babcock and Sharks coach Todd McLellan each planted the idea Tuesday that their forward lines could have a very different look Wednesday night when the puck drops at Joe Louis Arena for Game 3. Then they both proceeded to declare that nothing was set in stone. The Red Wings took the ice first at Joe Louis Arena, and for the first time this series, Babcock had Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg on separate lines. Datsyuk centered Johan Franzen and Tomas Holmstrom while Zetterberg was between Todd Bertuzzi and Dan Cleary. "I haven't decided who's playing with who tomorrow as of yet," Babcock told the media afterward. ... Ninety minutes later -- and with full knowledge of what Babcock had done -- McLellan sent his team on the ice with a new look, too, though it was one the Sharks had used earlier in the season.

here's a rumor : a playoff game will be played between the Sharks and Red Wings, and the team with the most goals at the "end" wins.

Here's a fact: I can tell you the score before the game starts -

What, when did this happens. I thought the games were all decided in a boardroom before the puck is dropped WWE style. What a concept. And in other news, on ice officials promise not to be too involved in the game and will let the players decide the outcome.

What a concept - actually having the playoff teams decide among themselves who is best. Do you suppose that this concept can be extended to all the other playoff teams?

One thing to be careful of, though, is how these contests are used. Certainly we don't want our sports fans exposed to terrible things like beer and fast food.

And the refs decide the rest of the game.

Works for me....aslong as the "right" team wins. :-)

"Wings, Sharks (pretend to?) shuffle lines"

Let's hope the Wings don't "pretend to" be playing hockey tonight.

It should be a Wing ding.

Like the last 2 games, for the most part?

They'll be ON tonight. If Hank is on his own line, it means he's healed enough to carry it, and SJ is in trouble if he's close to 100%.

I've been upset with the effort the Wings have put forth so far, but the one good thing is: SJ is clearly playing their best hockey, while the Wings have mailed in 5 of the first 6 periods of this series. Yet the games are still close. Leads me to believe that the Wings can turn this series on a dime just by getting their legs moving.

And I'm surprised these 2 are bothering with mind games. Babcock mentored McLellan, they know each other and their little stunts well enough that neither will fall for them.

Here's hoping the Wings can cut back on the penalties. Some soft calls for sure, but they've gotta be smarter. Especially Bertuzzi who seems lost, a step (or more) behind, and dumbstruck about how to solve the problem.

4-1 Wings tonight, the 4th being an empty netter.

The Icky shuffle.

I'd say Bertuzzi is off-rhythm because of the penalties. He does not penalty kill, and seldom if ever is on the power play. With all the special teams play so far in the San Jose series, he often sits for extended periods

Couldn't have said it better, myself.

Just put a plastic bag on him! At least he'll not be spouting F-bombs this week.......He doesn't have to, I've been doing it for him! Actually I've been resigned to it for a while now. I'll just be watching the rest of the play-offs as a very polite spectator! Well, maybe not real polite...

:-)
