Bird overplaying his hand with demands

08:09 AM ET 05.05 | He may be from French Lick, but that doesn't mean he can't bring some chutzpah. How else do you explain his statement that he would consider returning as Indiana Pacers president of basketball operations if owner Herb Simon, who has always been generous with Bird and the franchise, is willing to spend the cash necessary to improve the team? It's OK to have those private concerns; it's not OK to go public with them. It's wrong from a personal standpoint -- Simon has been extraordinarily good to Bird -- and it's wrong from a business standpoint, sucking the air out of the room after the team's energizing late-season improvement. I like Bird immensely, appreciate his accessibility and honesty, but when did his team play in the Eastern Conference finals?

You'll have to ask Reggie Miller that question.

This is the first time French Lick and chutzpah have been used in the same sentence.

Also what is this man-crush about Bird. Its not like he carried this team to a promise land. he's done an OK job, nothing breathtaking.
If Walsh wants to return to Indy, that would be a pick worth pouncing on. If Bird wants to walk, bye bye brother!

with Collison, granger, and hibbert as their young big 3 players should look to come to indy...

Me think Boston needs you, Bro.

Please don't ask Reggie Miller to talk any more than he already does. He is the worst.

Bird needs to follow Jordan and buy his own team. What does he has to offer Indy besides name recognition and legacy?

QUOTE(#16):

See above @15The stars will make the top level $ anywhere, the stars can now dictate where they want to go cause they are in dmand. That's todays nba. Indy is just not a desirable location for players

that's what i mean, if they're willing to offer more to someone to get him then that player won't pass it up....i mean obviously guys like CP3 will draw max offers from everyone but there's fringe guys that can be had that still help ya win. in this free agent class guys like 'dre Miller, Jamal Crawford, J Rich, W. Chandler, Prince, Thad Young, Baby Davis, Dalembert could be had if your capable and willing to spend on them....obviously none are franchise changers, but they all could help teams win

now personally i think a team like Indy is in a tough spot, they don't have a real franchise guy to truly compete but they're good enough where they'll probably be a consistent late playoff seed and thus won't be in position to draft high...teams like this are in lose lose mode basically

May 5, 2011  04:52 PM ET

Maybe he should resort to doing Hanes commericials.

When all the "good" teams can no longer work A1 players onto their rosters, said players will look at Indiana.

I like Larry Bird, but you don't bite the hand that feeds you before it even offers the food.
