Jimenez, Gonzalez failing superstar test

08:13 AM ET 05.05 | Perhaps most surprising in the Rockies to-date dream season is the fact it has been achieved without two young stars. In fact, the fast start has provided cover for Ubaldo Jimenez and Carlos Gonzalez as they struggle to live up to the expectations of stardom. "Both these guys are just learning how to deal with things that they've never had to deal with before," Rockies general manager Dan O'Dowd said Tuesday. Last season's NL batting champion, Gonzalez hit .336 with 34 home runs and 117 RBIs, finishing third in the most valuable player voting. After going 2 for 2 with a home run -- doubling his output for the season -- in Tuesday night's loss, he stands at .247 and 15 RBIs. Jimenez's regression has been even more pronounced.

Typical "the sky is falling" garbage and it's May 5th. Lets reserve panic for late July maybe?

You gotta take everything the Denver Post takes with massive grains of salt. If a story doesn't reek of Bronco orange, then the staff has no clue what it's trying to write about.

I'm sure both of those players will get it going and probably sooner rather than later.

My little sister could pitch for the Rockies..Roller Derby is a lot cheaper and they really care who wins..Hey may'be we could sell the Bronco's and the Rockies to Libya for a bunch of Oil...One dollar a gallon gas in Denver forever vs watching stinky mud dry....hmmmm...seems fair to me.

I always thought CarGo was a little overrated. Now, I don't think he is as bad as he has been, but I also didn't think he was as good as people made him out to be. I didn't think he could replicate last season's numbers. Plus, look at his home/road splits from last year. They're almost alarming. When you play at Coors, home/road should be taken into account.

I would argue that Jiminez has been through it before. He was the lead story on Sportscenter every time he pitched last year. He was in the spotlight for a while and faltered under the pressure. He is the one I worry about more than Gonzalez.

18-10, 4 game lead in the NL West, 4th best record in the Majors. If that's failing can we continue it thru September? I would be interested to see if Larry Walker would trade his MVP for some playoff success.
