08:28 AM ET 05.05 | Another too-early playoff exit will hang over the Caps this offseason. General manager George McPhee and coach Bruce Boudreau should not be absolved of all culpability for the Capitals getting unceremoniously swept out of the playoffs with Wednesday's 5-3 loss to the Lightning. But what transpired in Games 3 and 4 at St. Pete Times Forum wasn't about a flawed roster or X's and O's. It was indicative of a larger problem, one that emanates from inside the dressing room and could prove difficult to solve. ... Across the cramped dressing room, Brooks Laich was answering a question about Boudreau's future. "What do you mean?" the winger fired back. "That doesn't fall on Bruce. We're the guys that play the game. Bruce, Dean [Evason] and Bob [Woods], I think we have a dream team of coaches. We're privileged to play for these guys. Any criticism directed toward them is completely unjust. They put the game plan together and it's up to the players to execute."

Congratulations to the Lightning!

So who's outta Washington, if not Boudreau?

May 5, 2011  08:51 AM ET

I did not see the Bolts winning this series let alone sweeping it.

agree with that... did not see this one coming

now both the Sharks and B's are in a position to sweep, too.
I figured most of the second round series would be 6 games, if not 7.

Rolo is playing like man possesed, the Bolts are getting goals from everywhere... good for them.

Sean Bergenheim?

Sean Bergenheim?

14 goals for the entire season and 7 goals already in the playoffs.

And the arenas...let's not forget to blame them too.

How about their 60 mil top line center. I don't think he even scored once in the playoffs and had 2 or 3 points. Even Semin did a little something this year.

Did Olie shake hands? 7 wins in a row for the Bolts. To say they got hot at the right time is an understatement. They played better and deserved to win. Simple as that.

Caps had a better week than Osama, but not much else.

That's "Ovie"

And for all you haters...The Lightning haven't lost a playoff game since everybody's favorite, Marc-Andre Bergeron has entered the lineup.

I thought I saw him in the handshake line.

Sorry about your Caps. I know it's tough when they ended the season playing so well. I have a feeling my Flyers are going to be joining them on Friday.

"They put the game plan together and it's up to the players to execute."

That reminds me of Rich McKay's quote about the Tampa Bay Buccaneers a coupld decades ago when a reporter asked him about his team's execution and he said he was in favor of it. :)

Thanks. As you already know only 3 teams have ever come back from an 0-3 hole. You were one of them so although hope its fading...................it's still there until someone wins game 4. This has been a strange second round though.................

Boudreau will probably get axed. Guy Boucher should get a write-in for coach of the year.

May 5, 2011  10:28 AM ET

Heard a rumour that the Caps will be featured in another HBO Special, only this time it'll be called 21.5/7 because they like to take 2.5 hours off every couple days. :-(

this one hurts...

Mckay (John) also said "we didn't block very well...but we made up for it by not tackling"

Flyers look gassed, both mentally and physicallly
Could be my worst nightmare: Nashville/Tampa Bay in the finals
