08:01 AM ET 05.06 | While it had been suggested already that Steve Smith wanted out, the idea of possible destinations has now been floated. Football News Now is reporting that Panthers receiver Steve Smith wants to be traded to either the Oakland Raiders or the San Diego Chargers. Carolina may be forced to trade him because the veteran has reportedly cleared out his locker and residence. Smith, 32, told a league source that "he does not want to spend another year rebuilding at his age." He is from Lynwood, Calif. and wants to return to the West Coast. Smith has played all nine seasons for the Panthers and has 8,884 receiving yards and 52 touchdowns.

That's pretty final.

Morning All, wow he wants an upgrade to the Raiders...

May 6, 2011  08:09 AM ET

He knows that Cam is NOT the guy.

May 6, 2011  08:11 AM ET

He just wants to close out his career closer to home. I guess a ring isn't on his mind.

May 6, 2011  08:12 AM ET

He doesn't want to spend another year rebuilding, but he wants to go to the Raiders or the Chargers? OK, if they're not rebuilding, they're going nowhere.

May 6, 2011  08:26 AM ET

Maybe he is DISGRUNTLED because someone has him by the facemask

OK, but then how did he get GRUNTLED in the first place?

May 6, 2011  08:35 AM ET

Steve is still a pretty good reciever and he would be a welcome addition to the Bolts. They could get him at a discount.

Seriously, when was the last time San Diego made a good personnel move?

It's that darn CA real estate market. They tear stuff down faster than they can build.

In the pre-AJ Smith era.

This story is bunk!!! Nobody wants to be traded to Oakland.

(my apologies to Oakland fans, I just couldn't resist myself)

May 6, 2011  09:22 AM ET

Going somewhere with low expectations must be a criteria for him.

May 6, 2011  09:33 AM ET

Why would anyone WANT to go to the Raiders? Not saying the Panthers situation is the best right now, but Oakland is just a well, black hole!

after trying to catch ducks from jimmy last year i would be ready to move on as well.

Why would anyone knowingly want to work for Al (I've completely lost my mind)Davis, or AJ (tighwad) Smith? Go for it Mr. Smith you will be completely irrelevant.

Broncos!

Why would any established veteran want to be trade to the Raiders.... oh wait Seymour just got a huge deal, Smith must figure Nosferatu Davis will give him one last huge payday.

A great underrated football player and competitor that has languished with an uneven franchise. As a Falcons fan, I'm glad he's going but you've got to give him his due. Although Oakland and San Diego are not the answers. If I were him I'd look at the Cardinals or Seahawks if West is what he wants.
