08:27 AM ET 05.08 | General manager Sandy Alderson says the Mets hope to keep Jose Reyes off the free-agent market, but other teams expect the Mets to trade him at midseason if they haven't signed him to an extension. The Giants are very interested, as has been reported. The Brewers also are watching with interest.

They will trade him alright, but I do not think the Giants want to pay the price.

How about that pickoff at first base last night?

I don't see Milwaukee being a good place.....

He's not old enough or far enough over the hill to play shortstop for the Giants.

Trading Reyes will be Alderson's first big move, gonna set the tone for his reign. Beltran, fans won't care if he gets a bag of balls for. Reyes, they are going to want some quality. Personally, if I'm not blown away, I hold off and take the draft picks.

That's exactly the right plan. He needs to get a big time package for Reyes, in order to appease to public perception. The problem is that I don't know what team would be willing to put forth a big enough package of prospects in return.

10-5 over the last 15 games...

play that way the rest of the season and they are the wild card team. Either way, the record at the deadline will tell you everything you need to know about whether or not the Mets are holding or folding.

How about his 4 triples in four games and his .331 average?

I don't see a big haul of talent coming for Reyes. He's an average hitter and a poor shortstop. He has speed, but he's also going to be 30 next year. When you add that to being injury prone the last 3 years with a poor attitude then I don't see teams lining up to gut the farm system; not when they can wait for free agency.

Hey Cards Fan 2, you're completely clueless. Before you comment on another team's player, you should at least make an effort to check your facts. Reyes is a 287 lifetime hitter. That's not average, not even close. He's a .974 lifetime fielder, better than Rollins and tied with Rameriez. For the 4 year period from 2005-08 he averaged 158 games. He missed most of 2009, but played in 133 games last year. All players get injured over the course of their career. You didn't even get his age correct, he's only 27. And where do you get his "poor attitude" ? His new manager and teammates love the guy. He hustles his butt off and is in no danger of losing his speed. And I hope you're right about "teams not lining up to gut there farm system" because Reyes is way too valuable to trade for a couple of minor league pitching prospects.

Why would another team need to be "desperate" to pick up Reyes remaining 2011 contract ? Why so serious, are you an idiot ? Reyes is batting .331 with a .374 obp. He's considered one of the top 5 shortstops in the league. Again, I hope we don't trade him. He is the most exciting player in the league and unless we received a number one pitching prospect, I would have no interest in trading him.

While I agree they are trading Reyes, you sound like the typical ungrateful Met fan with you Beltran point.
