08:46 AM ET 05.08 | Two days after Maryland celebrated the career of retiring coach Gary Williams, the school's search for Williams's replacement could be turning to Notre Dame Coach Mike Brey. Brey will meet with Maryland officials on Sunday to discuss the vacant men's basketball head coaching position, according to a source close to Brey and to the Maryland athletic department who was not authorized to speak on the record. Sources said there is mutual interest between Maryland and Brey, who has deep roots in the area. One source close to the Maryland athletic department and to Brey said Brey wants the Maryland job.

Hey, where is the rumour from the always available St. Paul Pioneer Press sports gossip guy saying Tubby Smith is going to ND? Maybe 10 years ago, or even 4.

Correction, MD. Teleprompter error.

Yeah, they said the same thing about Miller: "there is mutual interest". Not! Maryland ain't a great job folks. Unless you like getting out recruited and beaten down by Duke and NC most of the time.

didn't they just run a story in here a couple days ago that leaving ND would have "complications"..the only complication was how much money and when can you leave....didn't become a "wants to" story until Sean Miller became a real possiblility

That is a pretty dumb comment. NC and Duke out recruit everyone, that is why they are always good. Its getting beat out by Texas, Syracuse and Pitt, that hurts Maryland. MD has the potential to be a consistently great program. Big market, new arena and as much if not more local talent than any area of the country. To say MD is not a good job is flat out untrue.

Yeah, Md isn't a great job...that's why they don't have top coaches wanting the position...what's that?....top coaches Do want this job? Guess that makes it a great job to have then. Great recruiting pool (Duke and NC may get who thay want but Gary failed to even recruit some great talent from that area like....Durant..instead of losing talent to others), top tier conference and there isn't anything wrong with being the 3rd best BB school in the ACC. The right coach and Md will challenge Duke and NC in 3 years.

Aww, somebody got their feelings hurt.

Brey was the U of Delaware's coach before he left for ND. This would probably be a dream come true. He has a better chance (not much, but a chance) to win a National Champ at MD than at ND.

The rumor around DC is that they want Shaka from VCU.

After the Sean Miller debacle, I won't believe it until he's standing on our sidelines.
