Will Caps break up 'Young Guns?'

08:51 AM ET 05.08 | Assuming there isn't a change made behind the Capitals bench -- General Manager George McPhee has said Bruce Boudreau's job is safe, but he used the word "expect" when asked if the coach would return -- the first move should be to subtract at least one of the "Young Guns" from the equation. Such a move would let the others know that the status quo won't be tolerated while also stirring the mix of core players that has grown complacent.

I dunno I think the only message a move like that would send would be how stupid the management is. Boudreau needs to change tactics a little for the second season and the players need to step up a little more. Other than that, I don't see where any changes are going to benefit them.

Trade Semin already.

Another veteran presence and a real crash and bang energy line and good health gets them over the top.

Their goaltending and d-men (when all healthy) look fine...Just something missing from the equation on the front end.

Keep the young guns, get rid of the old fart

They don't have enough 'greasy' guys. Character guys who'd do anything and they need a philosophy change these are not the mid 80's Oilers they have to be defensively responsible

Semin wasnt even invited to the Russian team in the World Championships lol. Trade Semin for 2 character players.

I agree what they need are a few 'greasy' players that will do the things that are needed to win

Agree. Just fire Bruce Boudreau's arse and no break up is necessary.

What are you smoking? You need to learn to share...

No GM in his right mind would trade 2 players (especially "character" guys) for one who helps to get you into the show then runs off and hides when it's time for the big boys to earn their cash... Washington is overpaying him and there are very few teams that will pay his salary for a "regular season" guy...

Boudreau needs to do more than just change tactics. The Caps as now constituted will do well in a regular season but will run into trouble in the playoffs. There are many differences between the regular season and the playoffs/ I think the biggest single difference is that teams play each other one at a time (with occasional home-and-home games).

A team build and coached for the playoffs will usually do well during the regular season but a team built and coached to win the season will frequently fail during the playoffs.

Ovechkin is a selfish player. They will not win in the playoffs until he starts doing the little things that are expected out of a true team leader.
