Texas secret: Gilbert quietly named starter

08:17 AM ET 05.10 | With so many eyes on Texas these days, it's a surprise anything could get done in the dark in Austin. Junior-to-be quarterback Garrett Gilbert has been chosen as the Texas starter and been told so, one source who regularly talks to the football players told me, but Mack Brown and Bryan Harsin don't want Connor Wood, Case McCoy and David Ash to stop working as hard as possible, and haven't made any public announcement on the starting position. I think it'd be smarter to show strength and confidence in Gilbert by announcing he's the guy, which most all of us expect.

QUOTE(#1):

That is no surprise. Is the McCoy kid gonna be anywhere as good as his brother?

Not from what I saw of him in HS. Has more physical skills IMHO...but not the other qualities.

Oh God please ... no more media attention.

That being said I would expect Connor Wood to challenge Gilbert but I'm hoping they don't have to burn his redshirt, or David Ash's.

Texas week I guess, that is good, cheer up our Texas guys, get their minds off the fires and forget last year. They will have a lot better year this year, Wooo Hooo!

We had a grass fire Sunday that damn near got into a gas plant before they contained it. As the grandkids say, "that would make a big boom."

I was thinking the same thing. I don't think UCLA will be that good this year, but you never know for sure.

Greg Davis is gone now and so is this play from the playbook. thank God. If I had to listen to "Screen pass to the flat for minus two yards" one more time I was gonna scream.

Greg Davis was the OC? I already see a problem with his methods. He probably confused everyone using Xs instead of Os.

Do we have anybody who can block for whoever the QB is? And maybe block for the RBs a bit while they're at it? Maybe one or two kids who can get open and catch the ball? Hell, we might even go "retro" and harken back to the days when we has TEs......Juts effin' win some goddam games !!!!!

JRM, over the next couple of years, you will come to love Stacy Searels. If the kids on your line have talent, he will bring it out.

Hell OT, they weren't any good last year and beat the flagship team from Texas!...oh wait, they didn't play TCU...my bad.

Pachell and yeah they say he is gonna be good. the Case to TCU thing though who knows. Someone who "knows the family" said thats what he was told.

That would be interesting. "Casey" Pachall and "Case" McCoy were in the same district in HS...one at Brownwood, the other at Graham. The two schools didn't get along until Shipley took over coaching at Brownwood and Graham switched districts.
