Jagr looks back fondly on Pens years: 'The best'

08:22 AM ET 05.11 | Jaromir Jagr's hockey future is up in the air, but his past belongs in large part to Pittsburgh. The Penguins plan to invite Jagr to their annual summer alumni golf outing, which will serve as a reunion for members of the 1991 Stanley Cup championship club. He started that season as an 18-year-old rookie and scored 27 regular-season goals before adding 13 points in the playoffs. Jagr sounded willing Tuesday at hockey's world championships to bury that hatchet with Penguins fans that have long held a grudge against him for requesting a trade from the club in July '01. During a media scrum, Jagr made several Penguins-themed comments, including: "I'm glad I was No. 5 [drafted overall, otherwise] I would never have played with Mario [Lemieux]. I would never have been in Pittsburgh. Those were my best years. ... "I had a chance to watch and play with the best player ever, and that's probably the best thing that happened to me in my life."

I miss the Jagr mullett, especially during playoffs.

Much as I love to look at Mario, why not a picture of Jagr?

Nolan, Nedved, Primeau, and Ricci went 1 through 4 in that draft. Wonder how any of there careers would have went if they got to play with Mario for a while.

Sounds like he's mulling a comeback.

I dont ever remember seeing this happen to Jagr when he was in the NHL. I think he should stay in Russia.

Knothead was the only loser in that mix anyway, suprised to see he managed 300 goals... ~80 which came with Pitt.. All the others had decent careers without Mario.

I'm sure Ricci was on the NHL All Ugly team many years in a row. Nolan displayed huge testicular fortitude through out his career and managed 400 plus goals. Primeau was felled a wee bit early by concussions before it was fashionable but he too had a good run.

I'm sure you'd change your tune if Dan Quinn showed up at your door with him.

Actually Nedved played with Mario in the 95-96 season and the 96-97 season. I think those were the two best years of his career too.

He had one "biggish" year with the Canucks before Pitt and several average ones with the Rangers after Pitt.

Just saw Jagr had a hatrick today against USA in the IIHF and US got eliminated. Maybe he still has some left.

Anyone else agree the Olympic ice is better?
