08:24 AM ET 05.11 | The Blue Jackets are hemorrhaging money, and it has the franchise in dire need of a fix. Columbus is projecting losses of approximately $25 million for the 2010-11 season, an NHL source told The Dispatch Tuesday. The club's financial distress has been known for two years, but this season's projected losses ... represent a staggering increase. The Jackets lost roughly $14 million in each of the previous two seasons. The deeper losses come at a time when two NHL franchises -- in Phoenix and Atlanta -- seem on the verge of relocation. It's possible one of those franchises could move to Winnipeg, Manitoba, before next season. The NHL source said Columbus shouldn't be "part of that conversation with Atlanta and Phoenix yet. But they need a solution, and quick."

It seems as though they already are.

pretty much.
bad arena leases tend to kill your budget. non-playoff seasons don't help, either.

If anything, they'll want to move them south of the Mason-Dixon line...

To many teams. Contract contract contract

People in Columbus only care about Jim Tressel and his memorabilia-selling college football team.

3 reasons this is good news:
1. It would mean the end of the worse nickname in the NHL ( Thrashers, you're a close second)
2. It's an opportunity to change their NYR color scheme that fools me a for second every time on Versus.
3. Another team in Canada!!!

May 11, 2011  09:25 AM ET

I don't care if they move, I dont think anyone in Columbus will care either. More ppl in Pitt will care cuz it's a close drive for an away game. They never should have gotten a team to begin with.

I don't mind a team going to Canada, but not really Winnipeg. They will turn into another Edmonton. Arctic city noone wants to play for. I think there's plenty of other cities US and Quebec that would do better.

Maybe the City of Glendale will give them $25 million. They gave $25 million to another waste of a franchise last night.

You may have hit on something! Instead of discounted seats how about free tats for visiting drug dealers at the games?

Amen, Amen, Amen.

Start with losing Atlanta, Columbus, Florida and Dallas. Then relocate Phoenix to Winnipeg and Carolina to Quebec City.

No offense to any fans in those cities, so don't get on my asss OK. It just never made sense to have NHL teams in these locations.

Orlando has a new arena.

I'm sure the GREAT Gary Buttman will have a solution.

May 11, 2011  11:11 AM ET

2 years of Depression has not helped teams any these past 2 seasons, but Columbus was always one of those WTH teams.

They voted in the money to keep them at least until the owner buys I'm thinking (I'm thinking?)

I'm going to put that one on a bumper sticker. Beautiful.

And somehow the Buttgoblin will manage to drag out relocation or contraction for another 5 years.

What about the Wild? Worst name in all of sports (Heat and Magic tied for second. Well done Florida)

Phoenix to Winnipeg ($60 mill relocation fee) + Islanders to Southern Ontario ($60 mill relocation fee) + Atlanta to Seattle ($60 mill relocation fee) + Nashville to Kansas City ($60 mill relocation fee).

Now the league has $240 mill to buy Florida and Columbus and make them dissappear.
