Vikes stadium far from done deal

08:04 AM ET 05.11 | There may be 200 million reasons not to celebrate a new stadium just yet. Ramsey County officials were giddy Tuesday with the announcement of a partnership with the Vikings for a proposed $1.1 billion retractable-roof stadium in Arden Hills. However, a deal is far from complete. Unless approximately $200 million more for highway and road infrastructure improvements is found, don't be surprised if the Vikings soon end up back in Minneapolis seeking a new stadium built on the Metrodome site. The state is willing to contribute $300 million for an Arden Hills stadium. But the state isn't willing to give some $200 million more for highway and road infrastructure improvements. ... Bottom line: Ramsey County and the Vikings basically have agreed to a stadium deal that is still about $200 million short.

Wake us when this is actually news.

This doesn't look good with the whole "owners losing money" theory

May 11, 2011  08:09 AM ET

I can see the posturing statements about "it is in everyone's best interests to get this done".

Translation - Taxpayers... get ready for some road improvements.

Taxpayers of Minnesota..... BOHICA

The stadium isn't done, but the Vikings are.

The Arden Hills site needs road improvements anyway. I love the site because I could tailgate in my work parking lot. Building a stadium on an ammo dump though is pretty ironic with the current edition of The Vikings.

It is not about football. It is about greed. Wilf wants land around a new stadium there that the US Army now owns.
Wilf made his money in real estate. He is looking to develop hotels and restaurants and the like to make MORE money while Ramsay county raises sales taxes to give him $350 million and the City of Minneapolis gives him $200+ million from new taxes and the State kicks in $300 million from new taxes and...Well, you gt the idea.
And that is what too many NFL owners are all about. YOu build it, they own it and lock you out with a lot of new corporate seating that they do not have to share with the NFL.

Wilf wants that land. He wants it cheap.

Adding in $200 million in road work and you are talking about $1.1 BILLION dollars in public money with new taxes that will never go away. That is all Wilf wants.

The "partnership" with the Vikes will likely be something like this:

Locality will build the stadium (on the taxpayers dime). Vikings will get the parking, food concessions, and luxury box revenue for all events (not just football).

when is it ever about anything else?

Poor Vikes ... they're literally rebuilding on every level.

May 11, 2011  08:55 AM ET

...And Governor Dayton said that there is no way the state would payout any more money for the roads.

Wow, owning an NFL team is about money? When did that happen?

Where's Jesse Ventura when you need him?

Not just money from football. It is about your money.Football is just a front to tap into tax breaks and free money and no interest money from the NFL fund.

Nice synergy there...

I thought the headline was referring to the readiness of the Metrodome.
