08:11 AM ET 05.12 | John Lackey spun another clunker Wednesday night. After the Red Sox's 9-3 loss to the Blue Jays Wednesday night, a demoralized Lackey talked about his recent struggles. "I'll keep working hard. It's got to turn sometime," said Lackey, who allowed nine runs on nine hits with five walks over 6 2/3 innings. "Everything in my life [stinks] right now, to be honest with you." Lackey, whose ERA rose to 8.01, has now given up 19 hits and 17 runs over his last two starts (10 2/3 innings). He succumbed to five runs in the seventh inning, with the Blue Jays driving Lackey from the game with a John McDonald two-run double with two outs in the frame. McDonald, who came into the game having gone 3 for 19 against the starter, also hit a solo home run off of Lackey in the fourth inning.

Tell it like it is, Bro.

Hinting that this is not a baseball problem. bad for Mr Lackey and bad for Red Sox Nation.

Well, let's kick that dead horse once again, yet another ace, albeit one from the AL, that comes to the AL East and implodes. Pitching in that division in those ballparks is a whole new ballgame.

May 12, 2011  08:47 AM ET

This guy needs to get his head screwed on straight to be successful because he's not the type of pitcher that can get by on talent alone.

just retire Lackey. you are truly awful and painful to watch, i'd rather have a 40 year old Pedro than you.

get him out of the rotation for a while till he gets his issues sorted out, let wakefield take a few starts...

May 12, 2011  09:11 AM ET

Hopefully he doesn't mean his home life as well. He has a hot wife.

Lackey's comment brings a tear to my eye....not

The fact that his wife is currently being treated for breast cancer, must be weighing on his mind as well. I"ll have to give him a break right now. Maybe he needs a stint on the DL to clear his mind.

I forgot that she had breast cancer. I hope she gets better soon, so he'll get better. He'll come around.

QUOTE(#11):

He wasn't that bad last night - looks like momentary lapses of concentration (can't imagine why - full sarcasm intended). When he can focus again - it'll get rid of the lapses.

If he can't concentrate fully on baseball, (and I can certainly understand if he can't) then it's not doing him or the team any good to keep trotting him out there every 5th day. Let him take some time off to mind straight and come back later in the season if his wife is Ok.

Hey, Norman.

I was unaware that his wife has cancer. I'm glad I read your post before I posted something stupid like DENVERROB or Recon did.

I hope his wife gets better. Cancer sucks.

Money isnt everything, obviously. I'm sure if your wife had cancer you would go to work everyday without it wearing on you huh? Sad
