08:13 AM ET 05.12 | Just what the Mets need: more headlines about money. A former Mets clubhouse manager was arrested today for stealing sports memorabilia from the team -- including a set of autographed 1986 World Series warm-up uniforms -- that totaled a staggering $2.3 million, authorities said. Charlie Samuels, 53, who was fired from the team last November, was arraigned on a 21-count indictment in Queens Supreme Court, including falsifying business documents, grand larceny and tax fraud. Queens DA Richard Brown said Samuels allegedly stole 1,673 items that were stored in a friend's basement in Madison, Conn. The items, which have been valued at $2.3 million, included 507 jerseys, 828 bats and 304 hats.

not new, just never post. But that is annoying as....

I would be very surprised if most club house managers don't have quite a bit of stuff stashed down the basement. Probably not quite this much, however.

The "ZOMG!!1! U guyz R teh sux!" crowd over at ESPN was commenting that this is a "non-story" and "8 years?!?! For used jerseys?!?!"

This is big potatoes. If 2.3 mil is the tag value, what's some of this stuff worth on Ebay or to back channel collectors? 4-5 mil? That's more than some of the Wall Street thieves took. This is serious theft we're talking about here.

Well, somebody from the Mets was having a good year. (emphasis on WAS)

It's Mets memorabilia how could it be worth anything, are the Mets worth anything? Don't think they have done anything in my 30 yrs of existence that I would consider worth anything.

It was just a few items. I relaly didn't think they'd notice.

Funny that the Mets owners haven't been indicted considering they did the same thing on a much larger scale

Mike Leake could learn a thing or two from this guy....Samuels made off with $2.3 million...Leake only $59.88 from Macy's!
