Mets dealt 'huge' loss

08:12 AM ET 05.13 | The Mets weren't even going to paint a silver lining over the loss of Ike Davis. "It's huge," Terry Collins said Thursday of Davis' sprained left ankle and bone bruise, which will keep him from contributing for at least two weeks. A team trying to climb back toward respectability has lost one of its most productive players, as Davis has a team-best 25 RBIs and is second in home runs (seven), on-base percentage (.383) and OPS (.925), with Carlos Beltran leading the Mets in those categories. "His production is going to be sorely missed," Collins said. ... "We're going to miss the power. He's been an outstanding defender."

The only thing I wanna know...is why didn't the pitcher or catcher call of either Wright or Davis on that infield fly? Damn morons brought this injury on themselves with poor fundamentals...

The first baseman has priority over both the pitcher and catcher on a fly ball. If goes for it, they get out of the way. Apparently you don't know your fundamentals.

That's not what he asked. The P or C are supposed to be traffic cops in that situation. One of them should have called out which guy was going to take it.

If he's only out two weeks, its not a huge loss. Heck, since this is a "lost" season anyway, even longer isn't that big of a deal. But Ike is an important part of the future.

Why don't the Mets grow a pair, man up and stop relying on 1 player. If all 9 guys in the lineup have the mentality of not accepting losing, they can win. 60% mental 40% physical, Mind over Matter and all that.

This is a big loss to the Mets. Ike Davis is a young spark plug with power while many of their other players are underproducing. anyway it hurts them.

Actually no. The pitcher NEVER calls off an infielder on an infield fly. The catcher can call off an infielder, but almost always will not. Infielders are usually taught to handle short fly balls.
