Cavs eyeing Grizzlies' Gay

08:08 AM ET 05.16 | The Cavaliers, faced with the good-news-bad-news of lottery hope but a poor draft, may be talking trade. There is belief around the league that injured Memphis Grizzlies forward Rudy Gay could be had in the right deal. Gay, 25, has about $68 million left on his contract for the next four years. The Grizzlies have already given Zach Randolph a monster $71 million extension this spring and Marc Gasol's expiring contract is up next. Do the Grizzlies have enough money for Randolph, Gasol, Mike Conley's five-year, $45 million extension that begins next season and Gay, too? Perhaps, but they played awfully well during the postseason without him. ... The $13.6 million Gay earned this season fits under the Cavs' trade exception, but he would command much more than simply the trade exception.

The Grizz shouldnt assume that they were as good of a team without him...They played a little over their head and when Zach wasnt going they didnt have a #2 guy whats so ever.....

So... what do the Cavs have that they could actually give up for Gay?

Local scribe whizzing in the wind here...

I wouldn't turn him away.

Cleveland is dreaming on the wrong guy.

Yeah a Cavs thread..

Now getting down to business. Pick up Gray and expecially Gasol. Thanks.

Agree jgb. They need to luck out on the next two drafts, build young and draft well, and spend 3 years down the road. Gay is a great player and would certainly help the cavs, but he doesn't make them a playoff team. I think gay would be a good signing for Cleveland, but theyd be wiser to wait afew years on breaking the bank.

Everyone keeps saying that Memphis needs to make Cap space but they are sitting at around 54 million with the extension to Z-bo and since the luxury tax doesnt kick in until like 70 million they could give him a 4 year 48 million or 5 year at 65 in that neighborhood and be fine....

Was NOT this a Rumor on Sunday ... too ;) ...whatever FN ...

A trade exception is Only good for One Year, NBA Rules, got nothing to do with the CBA ...

So LBJ signed July 9th, so the CAVS need to Use the Trade Exception or Lose It! ....

With a Trade Exception, a team can go Over the CAP by using it, and only needs to give back a Second Round pick, ...

For Gay the rumor was the CAVS which have Two Lottery picks, CAVS & LA Clips .... would send one of them to Memphis for Gay ....

Better stay home, Bro.

Don't forget Gasol needs to be re-signed also.

Did you not read what I said? I get he needs to be resigned....Thats why you give him a 5 year 60 millionish contract offer...Im sure he would prob go for that since he likes Memphis....But they have roughly 16 million to play with before the luxury tax kicks in....

Going into next year they already have Mayo, Gay, Conley, allen, Young, Zach, Henry, Arthur, and vasquez under contracts for about 54 million...They got room...

Yeah... I see that.

I guess his 19.8 ppg is replaceable... but they sure could have used a little bit of that the last week.
