08:16 AM ET 05.16 | Believe it or not, the time is nearing for teams to start thinking about whether they're contenders or pretenders, buyers or sellers. Teams such as the Twins will be waiting to see whether they can turn it around, but we've seen this before: They usually recover and make the playoffs. If not, there will be suitors galore for Jason Kubel, one of the league's top hitters, who is due to be a free agent. The Twins also have free agent-to-be Michael Cuddyer, lefty starter Francisco Liriano, and who knows whether they would deal veteran Carl Pavano, who hasn't pitched well this season? The Twins usually don't sell off, but with impending free agents, they might.

Seems a bit early for this article.

True, how many years are the Twins out of it only to finish the season good and make the playoffs.

I think it was more a case of the other teams in their division not being very good. I think those days are over. They were just the best of a very mediocre lot those years.

From what I've watched so far this season, 50 wins may be aiming high.

That probably does have something to do with it as well, but in the AL central it's hard to count a team out after a slow start, now if they're still struggling toward the end of June I wouldn't be shocked if they got rid of some guys.

My Redbirds could use Kubel and Capps! We need a closer like the Big Bad Wolf needs a better plan!

I wonder what type of offers they will get for Mauer.

probably none

Hopefully the Twins can work something out so he can go to the Yankees. A player of Mauer's talent deserves to play on a team of 'peers' and contend every season.

The Yankees have Posada, what do they need Mauer for?

The rate the Twins are going right now they will not have one of there turnarounds and end up in the playoffs as they hope to do. But there are some players that should be traded awat. Plus why would a person even consider trading a player like Mauer who is much happier in a place like minnesota (HIS HOME) than going to a place like NYY. This was evident with him signing a long deal. He is the type of player the league needs more of rather than the idiots just in there for the money
