Assuming there are no unforeseen snags, Mike Sherman is expected to be named the next head football coach at Texas A&M University, multiple sources told The Dallas Morning News on Sunday. The school has called a news conference today at the Bright Football Complex, A&M spokesman Alan Cannon said. Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville, believed to be one of the leading contenders for the A&M position, fell out of the running, a high-ranking university source said. Tuberville has a $6 million buyout clause in his Auburn contract. A&M officials were not willing to pay that amount "just to talk to him," the university source said. A&M would then have to pay even more to lure Tuberville to College Station.

November 26, 2007  01:19 PM ET

OH yeah

November 26, 2007  01:49 PM ET

This university is a joke-I used to live in this town and the pride that went along with being associate to this school left long ago. The AD should be fired as well.

Uh where the hell have you been for the past year? In a cave? This AD you think should be fired first of all had nothing to do with the hiring of Fran. Take a look at the coaches he has hired, womans AND men's basketball, baseball, soccer, and softball. Ya take a look at their recent history and see if u think the AD should still be let go.

He did so many great things with the Packers....*cough*.

This guy sucks, I would think A&M could do better.

I really wanted to see Butch Davis here. But, I'll wait and see how this goes. Yawn.

"He did so many great things with the packers.... *cough*."

In 2000, Sherman became the head coach of the Green Bay Packers. Sherman led the Packers to five consecutive winning seasons from 2000???04. From 2002???2004, Sherman led the Packers to three consecutive NFC North Division titles. From 2000???04, Sherman compiled a 53-27 record, and a .663 winning percentage, which is the second highest in Packers history, trailing that of Vince Lombardi's. Green Bay and the Philadelphia were the only two teams to make the playoffs for four consecutive seasons from 2001???04.

An offensive-minded coach, Sherman led the Packers to break franchise records for rushing in 2003 and passing in 2004. In 2003, Brett Favre led the NFL in touchdown passes, in addition to setting a franchise record for rushing yardage.

Not saying Sherman was legendary at Green Bay, but he certainly wasn't terrible.
