08:01 AM ET 05.17 | Reggie Bush and the Saints may not be headed for a split, after all, and he said as much over the weekend. "I know the coaches want me here and the team wants me here, and it's a matter of handling the business side of it." ... [Regarding the idea of reducing his base salary]: "That's something that me and my agent and the Saints have to collectively come together and talk about and just come to a happy medium. Because obviously, we know that there's going to have to be some type of pay cut, that there's going to have to be some type of renegotiation. We're going to do the best we can to come to a happy medium, a meeting point, and hopefully, I'll be able to play for the Saints for six, seven, eight, 10 more years."

The question is do they want him back?

May 17, 2011  08:05 AM ET

That would be the only way he's coming back. We'll see how much his 'tweeting' hurt his chances. Twit!

With his every year heath problems that's a good question!

He's gonna take a paycut - at least he understands the nature of things.

May 17, 2011  08:23 AM ET

Just saying the name 'Bush'.......um...I don't know...the need a trim...

May 17, 2011  08:38 AM ET

Bush is one smart cookie!

May 17, 2011  08:38 AM ET

At least he is smart enough to face the fact that the only way the Saints will consider keeping him is with a pay cut. How much he is willing to give up will be the deciding factor.

May 17, 2011  08:48 AM ET

he is niche player and not an every down back.

May 17, 2011  09:12 AM ET

Can you use "bush" and "cut" in the same sentence and not get in trouble?

I don't think Bush wants to come back, but I think some more knowledgable people got in his ear and his is changing his tune since the draft. He has to know he won't make as much money on the open market as he would by restructuring his contract in New Orleans, he is just not a everydown player and never will be, he is a more talented Kevin Faulk (nothing wrong with that, but when your drafted #2 overall that does put ya pretty much in bust territory).

Reggie Bush is a Kevin Faulk.

And so long as he's okay with being paid like a Kevin Faulk, of course the Saints want him.

He's an offensive utility player, and utilities are always useful.

Heisman cuts, pay cuts. What's next?

May 17, 2011  11:58 AM ET

LOL, I'm sure he's thinking in the 8mill + range. Not the 3 to 5 (at the top end perhaps) that the Aints will want him to take.

I see this getting ugly since he's the typical spoiled brat athlete who's never had a reality check his whole life. He's already been stealing $$$ from them, only year he ever really "produced" was the year they one the SB. And its real debatable he was worth the coin that year, but hey they won the SB.

May 17, 2011  12:08 PM ET

3-5 mil per year for 15-20 touches per game plus kick returns. He should be plenty happy with that! Plus, with all the weather issues I'm sure that property values are down in the Big Easy so he doesn't want to sell.

wow, he's come a long way....wouldn't take a pay cut at u$c

was never asked to. Just asked him what account he wanted the money put in to.

Player of his value to team should be lucky with 3mill straight.

May 17, 2011  02:03 PM ET

They could get Leon Washington for one tenth of what Bush wants. And he's a better return man, which is the only thing Bush does moderately well.
But then again, Sean Peyton is enamored with him for some weird reason, he probably enjoys flips.

He should have stuck with Kim then he would never have had to work again...
