NFL analyst: Favre, Romo overrated

Sal Paolantonio is the author of the new book, "The Paolantonio Report: The Most Overrated and Underrated Players, Teams, Coaches & Moments in NFL History." Here are his five most overrated quarterbacks of all-time: 1. Joe Namath: His legend has much more to do with his Super Bowl III performance and his prolific off-field antics than his career stats. 2. Brett Favre: His image in the media has been hyperinflated to the good ol' boy routine, and that's why people like him. 3. Terry Bradshaw: He was ultimately an average quarterback who was surrounded by the greatest cast of talent ever assembled on one NFL roster, including eight Hall of Fame players. 4. Ken Stabler: His only accomplishment was winning the 1976 Super Bowl where the Raiders mostly ran and the defense stifled Fran Tarkenton. 5. Tony Romo: He barely made the team, and after one season of play he became a full-fledged superstar without really accomplishing anything to deserve it.

Wow, this guy might want to have a gut check. Did he ever make it on his High School Football team? Probably not.

To say that Brett Favre is overrated is retarded. He will own every record. He will some day get eclipsed by Peyton Manning but that is stupid.......

Romo is a Good QB that can and probably will be Great. I just keep smiling when I come in to work and I don't hear anyone talk crap about my Cowboys or Romo. He keeps getting better and better. Time usually only makes you a better player and the more he sees the better he will be.

This guy is so stupid. If you dont play for either the Eagle or Patriots you suck according to him. He has his head so far up those teams Aces he doesnt know what to do. I think he sucks as a jounalist hes overrated. ESPN is overrated they dont do anything great in sports coverage they suck

Sal is an idiot

I always thought he was a good reporter but this means he is a complete moron who never played at any level

November 26, 2007  08:00 AM ET

Now I too feel that Romo did get a little too much credit too early, but is he really the 5th most overrated QB in the history of the NFL? I vote Sal Paolantonio as the most overrated football analyst/writer, followed by Mark May and Trev Alberts.

With 2 minutes left on your own 20 yard line and down by 6, no timeouts, I take Favre......

November 26, 2007  08:01 AM ET

Where is Alberts???? He got bounced for Lou......Good move

November 26, 2007  08:09 AM ET

This dude is a lost ball in tall weeds. Romo is young, and getting better by the game. Again, in only his second year really. I'll take Favre when the going gets tough over almost any. Johnny U was the only other QB that I would rather have att he end of the game, 2 minutes left and needing two scores.

What about his under rated? Who does he think is great and getting no airtime? Brady? What a jerko^&

November 26, 2007  08:14 AM ET

His quotes are ultimately aimed at inflaming peoples passions, making die hard fans angry, and selling books. Why else make such blatantly wrong and unsubstantiated remarks?

First off, and I say this as an Eagles Fan.....how can you say Romo is one the most overrated QB's in history...while he's still playing...and playing well? The same with Favre or any QB still in the league today?

This is a simple case of a Sports Writer trying to sell a book by creating controversy.

November 26, 2007  08:22 AM ET

I remember Mike and Mike on espn were discussing his book on their show about 2 months ago and they pulled many ridiculous calls out of Sal's book. Im wondering if Sal has a drinking and gambling problem....

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but from what ive heard, his book is filled with plenty of these kinds of overrated and underrated farces.

November 26, 2007  08:27 AM ET

Romo... Its not a secret that he got a ton of hype so fast, when you play well for a Storied Franchise like Dallas right out of the gate of your career, you will be immediately over hyped. Cant really hold that against Romo even if you dont him. Im not even going to read the Farve part, its just straight rediculous. He def left out Archie Manning...

Winning 4 Super Bowls is over-rated? Owning nearly every record for qbs is over-rated? Just like it was said earlier, this guy is just trying to sell books with this kind of ridiculous claim. Any attention is good attention, I guess, but Sal has to think he has lost all credibility as a football reporter...and now he will likely be locked out of any interviews by the "good ol' boy Favre, by Romo for the next decade, and by Bradshaw and the rest. Good work Sal, hope (but not really) that you sell enough books to not have to work anymore...God knows you won't be getting any inside information anymore

November 26, 2007  08:36 AM ET

He also has Dan Marino, Barry Sanders and Lynn Swan as overrated.

November 26, 2007  08:37 AM ET

Sal probably doesn't even believe most of the crap he wrote. He just published this controvercial garbage to make more money from book sales.

November 26, 2007  08:39 AM ET

Who the hell is this loser and why should anyone take him seriously? Hortag and others have it right. He's just saying ridiculously stupid things about highly respected players just to stir up some controversy.

People will read his book, not to see how insightful he is, but to see just how much of a moron he is. Folks will will be talking about it for weeks now... so, good or bad, he will be getting the attention he's looking for.

On come on Three... you can't be serious by backing this clown? I'm all for Brady and the Pats but you do have to give credit where it's due.

The one thing I agree on is that Romo has been moved to the head of the class for no real reason. He's got to do more before I rank him with the rest of those QB's But he is young and has time to make his mark.
