Heat dialed up on Zook

08:21 AM ET 05.17 | A warm seat may be getting warmer at Illinois. It's now more important than ever for Illinois head coach Ron Zook to build off of a successful 2010 season in Champaign. Because with athletic director Ron Guenther announcing Monday that he will retire when his contract expires June 30, Zook will have a lot less room for error as he tries to keep the Fighting Illini trending in the right direction. ... As in any profession, a new leader often will want his or her handpicked selection in place to carry out a specific vision. The only way for Zook to persuade the next AD that he is the right man to lead Illinois into the future is to win. And, frankly, Zook hasn't won enough in Champaign up to this point.

There's a job waiting in Florida for you Zook!

Guenther idiotically gave Zook a $250K raise a few months ago following a completely mediocre season. The fact that nearly everyone else thinks Zook is borderline to be fired tells you just how out of touch Guenther must have been to think Zook deserving of a hefty raise.

When was he ever at Bama?
Also, I was looking for a story about Bama beating out UGA and FSU on a recruit this morning. Do they only do it when Bama is beaten on a recruit? Just askin.... :)

As for Zook, this is the same story every year. He's ALWAYS on the hot seat. Eventually, he gets fired and he moves on.

The content so far here has been negative, but in all seriousness I will bet Illinois has at least a 9 win season and a decent bowl game. We all know Zook can recruit, proven it at UF and also @ IL. Now he has OC's and DC's (hired last yr) that he has turned over primary responsibility. They are returning lots of talent and I look for him to do well in a down Big Ten.
12-0 deal with it…

BB9, IYO how will the Big 10 (12) shape up this year? Let's not get a tOSU debate going......besides them, who will be the top programs? I read the MSU thread yesterday and I just don't see them competing for the conference (can't get that **** whooping from Bamer out of my head). We hear Iowa, but they seem to always be over-hyped and under-perform. Nebraska??? What will they do in their first year?? Can Mich make a move in Hoke's first year??? do tell.....

Illini not equipped to win the Big 10. Zook's days are numbered. When the AD goes Zook will follow.
