Speculation leads to sympathy for Lackey

07:57 AM ET 05.18 | John Lackey's baseball life has been miserable in 2011, and there is some speculation it stems from his off-the-field life. Lackey didn't want to talk about his life off the field, but he opened himself up to speculation when he said his whole life stinks last week. Reporters, naturally, asked if he'd like to be more specific, and he answered in no uncertain terms: not a chance. ... The immediate speculation involved his wife, Krista, who underwent treatment for breast cancer during the offseason. In February, Lackey told Rob Bradford of WEEI.com that his wife "was doing really good" but has since said nothing publicly about her illness. Just the possibility that his on-field struggles might be the result of his wife's condition has, of course, made the media and fans more sympathetic.

This guy can sort of be good. Got paid a lot of money.

It's not proper to speculate on such matters, but I nevertheless hope the best for Krista.

QUOTE(#7):

Good morning folks.Of course I wish Lackey's wife every success in beating breast cancer. And, of course it affects him in every other aspect of his life. They have him on the DL due to a problem with his elbow, but in the back of my mind, I wonder if they're just giving him a chance to deal with whatever is bugging him ... but, 15 days may not be enough.

Well,, whatever he's got it appears that Dice K has it too. He is on the DL with elbow issues.
