07:58 AM ET 05.18 | Add another log on the smoldering Cardinals-Reds fire, this one carried by Tony La Russa, who didn't take kindly to Reds broadcaster Marty Brennaman's assessment of his team. On Monday, Brennaman called Chris Carpenter a "whiner and excuse-maker" on the air. He also referred to Dave Duncan as "infantile." Duncan was among those on the Cardinals bench yelling at Cordero during the game. Brennaman said that the Cardinals "might be the most disliked team in baseball." ... Before the Cardinals' game Tuesday in St. Louis, manager Tony La Russa noted that Brennaman is in the broadcasters' wing of baseball's Hall of Fame. "He earned the right to get into the Hall of Fame," La Russa said. "And now he ought to keep earning that respect instead of abusing it."

QUOTE(#1):

Carpenter is a huge whiner. Brennaman was right on with that remark. However, Brennaman runs his mouth too.

Why is Carp a whiner? Because if he doesn't like something, he says so????

That doesn't sound like a whiner to me

And for Dave Duncan to be carrying on like he was in the dugout was Bush League. The team takes on the characteristics of their manager and for the Cardinals I don't think that's such a good thing. LaRussa should heed his own advice and "keep earning respect instead of abusing it"

Carpenter takes up for a teammate?

Good for him...

I want a guy like that in my clubhouse...

Cueto is a punk and will get his, hopefully at the hands of a Cardinal..

QUOTE(#8):

I did check it out by the way. 13 batters hit last year.

Last year was a weird year for him. To be honest, I'm surprised at 13 - I thought it would have been higher!

QUOTE(#12):

Yes he does - he also likes to try and take the inside part of the plate away from the hitters and he'll run it in on their hands if he has too.

I would assume Cordero does as well so the Cardinals bench should not be so upset that Pujols got hit (especially being the tying run in the 9th inning). I would still expect to see Votto taking one in the ribs his first at bat next game vs Cards. Nothing less from good ol Tony.

I've always been a fan of less talk, more fight. They should ****' rumble already. Bats in hands, pairing off, bats in hands, and get it over with. If they aren't men enough to do that, then keep your mouths shut and play the damn game.

Marty hit it on the button....told him the way it is

After the game they had start running there mouths from the dugout at the Reds as they walked off the feild.....

Ol' Marty has more knowledge about the game then crying Larussa

QUOTE(#3):

he instigates way too much. you're a cardinals fan, I understand your sentiment. however, he is involved in at least one brawl per year. he seems to bean a lot of guys as well.

you're wrong about Carp...Besides, any announcer that works for a team that employs Brandon Phillips and Johnny Cueto has no room to criticize anyone else.

QUOTE(#7):

every time there is an incident, especially between these two teams, Carpenter is at the center of it. again, I understand you root for them, but the guy runs his mouth a ton.

He hasnt' been at the center of any incidents between these two teams.

He is intense, but he is not a whiner. He's been a Card since 2003, and I've never once heard him offer up an excuse or blame anyone else when things have gone wrong for him.

His intensity can lead to some things, but he is not a whiner.
