Former AD: Roy Williams 'squeals,' hasn't paid dues

08:21 AM ET 05.19 | Ostensibly objecting to the location of a basketball game, former Wisconsin AD Pat Richter managed to veer into personal territory. Richter is miffed at the timing and location of the Badgers' first-ever matchup against North Carolina in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge, and it's safe to assume he and Tar Heels coach Roy Williams aren't exchanging Christmas cards. ... Clearly, Richter doesn't envision the Tar Heels treading foot inside the Kohl Center, where Wisconsin is 152-11 in 10 seasons under Bo Ryan, including a 16-0 mark last year. "There are times we should have had them at our place, and it never happened," Richter said. "And I think Roy Williams squeals. He's never really had to pay his dues, so to speak, like a Bo Ryan and Dick Bennett."

Like him or not RW is incredibly successful. He's paid his dues by winning. Period. I love Wisconsin and Bo Ryan's teams but the AD looks really dumb here.

Wisconsin fans should turn this into a fun marketing ploy: "Even the great North Carolina is afraid of the Kohl Center". Granted, they should be considering the Badgers never lose there. It's kind of like how the Packers were invincible in Lambeau for most of the 90's

LOL, I fail to see your supporting documentation. RW wins because he's GIVEN the team to coach in advance, already pre-packaged for him when he walks in the door to his office. Bo Ryan had to climb the company ladder from the bottom up. BIG difference.

Pat Richter is just another Big Ten loser, eternally green with envy at the unmatched, long-term basketball success of UNC and the ACC in general.

And yet no other roundball teams in the nation can even sniff the NCAA tournament success that both UNC and Duke have enjoyed over the past 30 years. Envy really is a pathetic thing, ain't it?

Wow this guy started at a small high school in the rural mtns of North Carolina. He then became a low level assistant that sold calendars to supplement his income. Followed by the illusterous UNC JV head coach job. He was an assistant at UNC for more than a decade before taking over a Kansas job that mired in scandal and sanctions. He helped return that program to prominence. If your implication is that he was given the 2005 championship team and had no effect on the outcome of the season, then your basketball intelligence has been exposed as extremely low. Nevertheless, another championship in 2009 should have silenced this silly argument but I guess not.
