08:13 AM ET 05.19 | Put the thought out of your mind, Nats fans. Despite every indication that Bryce Harper would not be playing in Nats Park during the 2011 season, some fans have continued to hope Bryce Harper might play in Nats Park during the 2011 season. Well, stop hoping. Bryce Harper ain't playing in Nats Park during the 2011 season. Mike Rizzo has ruled it out. "Yes, I have," the GM said Wednesday on ESPN 980's The Sports Fix. "It's not gonna happen, because he's not ready for that to happen. He's got to learn the nuances of the game of baseball. We certainly don't want him to push him to a level where he's overmatched and struggles even for a short period of time."

What do the Jerky Boys have to do with the Nats?

May 19, 2011  08:31 AM ET

Let the kid work his way up, if he's all the media says he is, he'll get called up soon enough.

Stay the course.

Terrible headline for this article--really should read "Rizzo dismisses all talk of a Harper call-up" but that's probably a little too straightforward for T&R.

Most of the headlines in FN are misleading as to what the article actually states.

They have let the guy develop. Sure in some aspects of the game he's MLB ready but he's making a transition from catcher to outfield. Actually, maybe he's not quite ready hitting wise either. He may very well breeze through the pitching at the various levels but I would want to see him do it first.

At least we didn't get the usual melodramatic headline, like "Rizzo pregnant with Harper's baby --sources say."

Give the kid some time, he'll be alright. The Nats are still reeling from the whole Strasburg episode.

Agreed.....

Good decision. First off, the Nationals will not contend this year, so there is no urgency to bring Harper up just for his bat. At this point, Harper probably has the offensive skills to be called up right now. However, he is still learning to play outfield, and the minor league is definitely the place for that.

More importantly, Harper is learning how to be a professional. The Major League, and all of the distractions that come with it, should wait at least a year for him to settle into the day-to-day routine and discipline associated with being a professional baseball player. This delay will pay huge dividends in the form of a much more mature and disciplined player when the Nationals need him to contend.

Wait until late August or early September?Don't take away his chance to be the rookie of the year.

The way he is hyped one would expect him to hit .400 with 50 hrs a year...

Oh boy. Another Harper thread plus another Mauer thread. My week is complete.

In the meantime, the Tribe can't even get arrested (except for Choo)...

Harper has unreal talent. Arrogance and sense of entitlement that he lives by, though, will prove to be his downfall. Would like to root for his success, but he's just such a jerk.
