Cards cross fingers on Holliday, Berkman

08:15 AM ET 05.19 | A wild night at Busch Stadium included the loss off both Matt Holliday and Lance Berkman to what the Cardinals obviously hope are minor injuries. Holliday left the game after the second inning as a precaution after feeling tightness in his left quadricep. Berkman left the game after the top of the fifth inning after feeling discomfort in his right wrist after making a diving catch for the first out of the inning. There was no immediate word on the severity of either injury. That paved the way for all sorts of things. Mark Hamilton came in and played one inning for Holliday in left before Allen Craig, who started the game at second, was moved there. Tyler Greene took over for Craig at second, but before long, he was playing in right after Berkman came out. Berkman's absence allowed minor league callup Pete Kozma to see his first big league game.

For Berkman...there's no need to cross fingers......better off crossing them for Holliday.

At least they didn't injure their closer.

The Cards can't really afford to lose anyone.

Tony looks like he is hiding...from the police perhaps....

Holliday and Berkman would hurt for sure....just like it would hurt ANY team if they lost their #4 and #5 hitter in the lineup on the same day!

StLouis is off to a solid start.

Scary part...this is WITHOUT Wainright and Carpenter is 1-3 with over a 4 ERA and with 9 blown saves!!

Give me ANY 1 of the 3 issues in our favor and the Cards have the best record in the league.

Kudos to the team for playing hard.

I said this off season that Berkman will end up being the biggest off season move.

You mean like Baker whined and complained about "getting the wrong weather report"? *rolls eyes*
