Pack preparing for mass exodus in 2012?

08:05 AM ET 05.20 | Ted Thompson has his work cut out for him. Thompson is no doubt having a difficult time these days deciding whether or not to re-sign free agents such as WR James Jones, OG Daryn Colledge and RB Brandon Jackson, among others. But that could seem like a walk in the park compared to the challenging free-agent decisions the Packers' GM might be forced to consider next offseason. ... Heading the list of potential free agents are TE Jermichael Finley, who, by all accounts, is anticipating a sizable raise, and RB Ryan Grant, who suffered a season-ending ankle injury in Week 1 last season. With it seeming like a long shot that the Packers would be willing to re-sign both Finley and Grant to lucrative new deals, it's a good bet their contract status might have factored into the selections of RB Alex Green (third round) and TEs D.J. Williams (fifth round) and Ryan Taylor (seventh round) in this year's draft.

Another reason to get this CBA taken care of.

I see them dumping Grant and keeping Finley. Grant didn't really contribute anything last year and how strong is that ankle going to be.

The role-players have their rings, now they'll try to capitalize and get the big money somewhere else. Happens all the time.

"dumping" is not the correct word. "outbid" is a more appropriate description of the inevitable.

i think they'll make their best efforts to keep jermichael- the two ends drafted were just to make some more versatile formations
grant i don't see them bringing back after his contract is up unless it is dirt cheap and no one wants to take a flyer on him

Or, they could get a rookie salary cap with the CBA, which might let them have their cake and eat it too. The ever-escalating price tag for unproven draftees is messing up the salary structure for veteran players.

Very true. Still, don't you miss our JaMarcus Russell posts even just a little bit?

Would you rather male 800k and play on a Super Bowl team or get 5 million and play for the Panthers?

Yes, but all things must pass. 60 yards. On his knees.

Have you noticed that the "Family Radio" nutcases that are predicting the end of the world tomorrow are also from Oakland? It's run by some old guy, completely out of touch with reality. Sound familiar?

yep...not right to reward a guy for what he done in college.....they need to structure the contracts by rounds for an example:1st round $500thousand,2nd round $450 thousand ,3rd round $400 thousand and so on, for the forst 3 or 4 years then they would see how the kid performs at the NFL level before rewarding him with these crazy contracts that 1st rounders get that don't pan out or are back-ups

Pay them on merit? It will never work.

Who needs universities anyway? I say let 'em go straight from high school ball to the pros. Doctors, lawyers and dentists can go back to learning through apprenticeship like they did for hundreds of years before. That's one way to fix the BCS.
