Beltran may wind up in the Bronx

08:15 AM ET 05.20 | Dreams, even delayed dreams, may come true for Carlos Beltran. By the end of this season, Beltran just may get something he yearned for six years ago -- although right now, that's the furthest thing from his mind. Back then, before the 2005 season, the free-agent outfielder wanted to suit up for the team he'll face Friday night -- the Yankees. The Mets had made him an offer, and he accepted it only after his agent, Scott Boras, had his last-ditch pitch to Bomber brass turned down. ... The slumping Yankees could be interested. Jorge Posada has struggled in the DH role -- a perfect spot for Beltran -- and last Saturday, the former catcher created a firestorm when he pulled himself out of the lineup when scheduled to bat ninth.

Morning all!

I think the Yankees should trade for him and immediately sign him to a 3 year/$51M extension. There is a recent precedent for idiocy like that.

Now that's the kind of forward thinking I'm talking about.

... then why sign him now?

They lost in the bidding to the Mets the first time years ago.

Now, it's years later and Beltran is less marketable than he was during his free agent season.
