Sharks, Canucks rev up war of words

08:30 AM ET 05.20 | The subplots are growing in San Jose-Vancouver, with Ryane Clowe calling former teammate Maxim Lapierre a "coward" and the NHL passing on an opportunity to further discipline Ben Eager for a hit on Daniel Sedin. This appeared to disappoint Canucks head coach Alain Vigneault, who pointed an accusing finger at San Jose counterpart Todd McLellan for the manner in which he deployed Eager. After running Daniel from behind, Eager also slew-footed Mason Raymond, bowled over Roberto Luongo and then taunted him and, finally, was involved in a brouhaha with nine seconds remaining in the 7-3 Canucks win. "In our mind, he went out and tried to hurt our player, the potential MVP of the NHL," Vigneault said. "That's how their coach wants him to play."

or, they could just play hockey.

down 0 - 2; sharks may be getting a bit frustrated / desperate including the coach...

I guess that told him Alain!

Sending a message to the on ice officials for the next game. Although, if Eager gets some more penalties, will someone try to upstage the "Vancouver Vamp" and flash some silicone enhanced breast works?

On a serious note, Eager needs to keep his cool during the game. Me thinks the officials would like to toss him early to make their jobs a bit easier. And now that the Sharks are in their tank, will BooLongaGo need to keep a towel handy to dry off after he gets snowed, again and again.

Come on, that's a bad hit that got a penalty. A suspension, you kidding me? You can't suspend someone for being a d bag (Avery excluded). Poor Daniel's dainty sensibilities. Also, how do Henrik and Luo feel about who his coach is pointing out as their top player?

May 20, 2011  09:34 AM ET

Not to defend Eager, but I didn't think the hit was that bad. Sure it was boarding but he didn't drive him into the boards that hard. This is big boy hockey now you gotta expect a few lumps even to the precious Sedin twins.

On another note. Isn't there a rule against stopping so that goaltenders get a face full of snow? I seem to remember it being called spraying, but I can't find it in the rule book.

Really. I would think that after going 3 for 6 on the PP, Alain would send thank you cards to the Sharks.

Sir, I feel duty bound to come to the defense of this lady's honor. Can you prove the presence of silicone? If not, it's pistols at ten paces!

From my reading I took it as him saying that someone should upstage that young lady's natural attributes by flashing some man-made beauties. Now if you you want to take up pistols to defend natural over silicone I would be glad to stand in as your second.

I'll unselfishly volunteer to be part of the investigation commitee.

I don't care how long or how hard things become I'll continue to interrogate both suspects.

Did the Sharks quit in the 3rd period of game 2?

Thanks Santa. "Noble" is my middle name.

ps - There's no room for veracity on the FN threads. :-)

It wasn't. 2 minutes was fine. Danrick bounced right back up too. For once a Canuck didn't embellish..
